Week of Oct 5

Math: Our unit 1 test is Monday. Next, we will begin our unit on operations in Base Ten. This will consist of adding and subtracting numbers, place value, and rounding. Specifically this week, we will focus on adding and subtracting. Subtracting will probably be the main focus, as the numbers are larger this year than they have been before, and subtracting is usually more difficult.

Language Arts: We will finish our narrative units this week, and we will also conduct our first district writing assessment. On Thursday, we will begin our second writing unit, which is an opinion piece. In Daily 5, we will discuss our new spelling words, accuracy and vocabulary strategies, and continue working on the Author’s Purpose.

Science: We are continuing on with our unit on Matter. This week, we will talk about physical and chemical changes in matter as well as how to measure matter.

Social Studies: We began discussing the Midwest Region (our region), and we will talk about the Five Themes of Geography as we go through the discussions about the region.

This week, I will be sending home and Enrichment Project. This is a voluntary project, but will provide extra credit in both Math and Social Studies. We will begin the project at school, and it will be sent home to finish.

Have a fantastic week!
