The Module 3 Mid-Module Assessment that students took on Tuesday has been graded and is coming home today.  If your child received a “3” or “4”, they have the choice to do Test Corrections to improve their grade.  All test corrections must be completed and returned with the original test no later than Monday, January 14th.

Winter NWEA testing will begin this week.  We will be taking one test a week and will be testing Language, Science, Math and Reading.  Once all testing is over, a report will be sent home so you can see your child’s progress since the fall testing.

Just a reminder that we are back to our regular routine of reading 20-30 minutes every night and filling out the Reading Log.  Students should also be reading the assigned book that is sent home in their reading bags.

We are continuing multiplication in math and will begin division this week.  It is important that students have memorized their basic multiplication facts up to 10 x 10.  Continue to practice these facts at home with your child.

Thank you

Thank you to the Grey family for donating shared snack to the class.

Thank you to the families that have signed up to bring in treats/supplies for this Friday’s Holiday Party.

Remember that the Classroom Holiday Gift Exchange is this Friday, December 21st.  If your child would like to participate they should bring in a new wrapped gift no more than $5.00.  If your child is a boy, then they write “To Boy, From (Student’s Name)” on the wrapped gift.  If your child is a girl, then they write “To Girl, From (Student’s Name” on the gift.  This is optional, but if your child does not bring in a gift, he/she will not receive a gift in exchange.

This week is Snow Holiday Spirit Week:

Monday – “Baby it’s cold outside”- wear a winter hat and scarf

Tuesday-“Snow Day”- wear Snow school apparel

Wednesday-“White Out”- wear white like the winter snow and ice

Thursday-“Snowed In”- wear your pajamas and slippers (follow dress code- no shorts or spaghetti strapped tank tops)

Friday-“Holiday Sweater Day”- wear a festive or ugly sweater

Students have completed their second iReady Diagnostic Test for reading in class last week.  Students should have shown growth since the original test given the end of September.  A report of your child’s progress will be coming home today.  Please go over the report with your child to see where they scored on this test.  Sign and return the paper to school by Friday.  I will send another copy home for you to keep once you’ve returned the signed copy.

I will not be giving specific homework over the holiday break.  However, it is important that you continue to have your child read at home over the break.  Students do NOT need to fill in their Reading Logs over the break, but they should be reading 20-30 minutes daily.  Also, please continue to review basic multiplication facts at home with your child over the break.  A great stocking stuffer is multiplication flashcards.  Students were expected to have memorized their multiplication facts by the end of third grade.  We are currently in Module 3 in our Eureka Math program which is multi-digit multiplication and eventually division.  If your child is struggling with their basic facts, they will have difficulty with the rest of this Module.  You can go onto MobyMax and go to Fact Fluency for students to be timed in the memorization.  I also suggest the website https://www.arcademics.com/ which has fun games to review students’ speed and accuracy with multiplication and division.

Reminder that tomorrow, Tuesday, December 22nd is a Parent Meeting for 4th graders about Eureka Math.  If you would like to hear information and tips that you can use to help your child in math this year, please sign in at the office then head to the cafeteria by 3:00 p.m. tomorrow.  The meeting will last approximately 20 minutes.
