Lindbergh Elementary Hosts the 3rd Annual Science Boot Camp

Lindbergh’s science boot camp originated to help raise their science scores.  Tracy Wright is the chairperson of this event.  Lindbergh staff made a commitment to do more hands on science experiments to increase the student achievement as part of their SIP goals.

Each grade chooses a science experiment that goes with what they are teaching.  Ex. 3rd grade is studying plants and animals. So, they chose “what my plant will grow in.”   All boards and materials necessary were donated by the Lindbergh PTA.  A teacher committee and a student committee were formed to help decide what additional experiments to purchase. Some of the students even came up with some of their own experiments to share with families.  This was above and beyond the science boards.  The school was bustling with activity as students and families reviewed science projects, participated in hands on projects and even watching a live animal show.  With parent and staff working together the event was a success.

Dearborn High School Varsity Football Players Join the March is Reading Month Activities

Dearborn HS Varsity Football Players Participate in March is Reading Month

Imagine being an elementary student and seeing a big, tall football player come into your class wearing his jersey.  Then contemplate the sole purpose for his attendance was to read a book to your class.  Well, the Dearborn High School Varsity players have continued this tradition.  On March 3rd, varsity players visited Howard elementary school for this very purpose.  According to teacher, Allison Wolski, “There was a buzz of excitement in our building because of the visit from the Dearborn High Football team. All of the football players and their coaches did a wonderful job in our classrooms. The kids were excited to ask questions and hear a story read to them from the football players.”  Way to go Pioneers!Reading 1Reading 2

Building a Mathematical Mindset

This is a great read for both math teachers and parents.  What we thought of as adequate math instruction is challenged using current, brain research.  This book challenges us to rethink math instruction so our children realize mathematics is all about a set of ideas, connections and relationships we can use to make sense of the world.  Gone are the days of giving isolated problems to practice.  We need to help students think and apply problem-solving skills to find solutions to real-world problems.  Everyone can do this with engaging instruction and support!  This book is easy to read and full of the brain research and ideas to implement!
