Middle School Superintendent and Executive Director Student Advisory Council Meets

We held our first Superintendent and Executive Director Student Advisory Council (SEDSAC) meeting last week.  Students from Bryant, Lowrey, O.L. Smith, Stout, STEM, Woodworth and Unis met with Superintendent Maleyko, Dr. Jill Chochol, Mrs. Shannon Peterson, Dr. Youssef Mosallam and Ms. Danene Charles.  Students discussed empathy and planned to for activities to share with their schools.

DHS Men’s Ensemble Perform with University of Michigan Men’s Glee Club

On Saturday, November 11, the University of Michigan Men’s Glee Club celebrated the bicentennial anniversary  of U of M with a Symposium with an international collaboration of male choruses past, present and future. The Symposium had Glee Clubs from Notre Dame, Ohio State, Miami University, Baldwin University, and Chanticleer perform, As well as the U of M Glee Club an U of M Alumni Glee Club.

Our DHS students: Alex Belaire, Noah Goddard, Karim Hazamy, Mohamed Ali Hazamy, Sam Joachim, Alex Umbarger, and Devin Young were part of the Bicentennial High School Chorus. They rehearsed all day Saturday and performed with international conductors-  They performed a Polish War Song in polish with Josh Haberman from Santa Fe,O Que Me Diz O Vento Tropical  in Portuguese   with Dr.Paulo Carrapatoso from  Portugal and Ingoma    in Zulu with South African Director Lhente-Mari Pitout. at Hill Auditorium.

Michigan Department of Treasury Declares Scholarship Month

November has officially been declared scholarship month in Michigan! All month long, MI Student Aid will be actively posting on social media to celebrate. They will be highlighting their very own scholarship database, compiled of Michigan scholarships, where students can submit a request and get scholarships sent right to their email inbox. You will also find tips and tricks for filling out the perfect scholarship application in order to help students with their search. The department will also be discussing the various scholarships and grants programs provided by the State of Michigan as well as other resources, beyond scholarships, that can help make college Accessible, Affordable and Achievable for Michigan students and families.

 

2nd Annual District-Wide College Fair

On September 19th, we held our second annual district-wide college fair. The Ford Community and Performing Arts Center was the perfect place. With over 65 colleges/universities and educational institutions present, our students were able to gain valuable information for future success.

Preparing for school – when should my child go to bed?
