At the Dearborn Recreation Department’s annual awards banquet on Sunday, March 12th, DHS seniors Isabelle Clark and Riad Rababeh were named winners of the “Van Patrick Award” as the top female and male student-athletes in the City of Dearborn.  They were each selected from a group of four nominees (one from DHS, Fordson, Edsel Ford, and Divine Child).

In addition, Riad (Dearborn Track Club) and DHS sophomore Paul Washington (Dearborn Community Tennis Association) were honored for their contributions to the Dearborn Recreation Department’s partnership organizations.

During the school year, 5th grade classrooms and kindergarten classrooms at Duvall facilitate reading buddies.  Mr. David’s and Ms. Grahl’s classes were studying snowflakes.  They watched a video, read an article and book and then created snowflakes with a focus on symmetry and the characteristics of a snowflake.

On Thursday, November 17th, twenty new students were inducted into the National Junior Honor Society at Bryant Middle School.  Membership is based on the five pillars of NJHS:

• Scholarship
  Per national guidelines, at a minimum, students must have a cumulative GPA of 85, B, 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or equivalent standard of excellence. (Each school chapter is allowed to require a higher cumulative GPA.)
• Service
  This involves voluntary contributions made by a student to the school or community, done without compensation.
• Leadership
  Student leaders are those who are resourceful, good problem solvers, and idea contributors. Leadership experiences can be drawn from school or community activities while working with or for others.
• Character
  The student of good character is cooperative; demonstrates high standards of honesty and reliability; shows courtesy, concern, and respect for others; and generally maintains a clean disciplinary record.
• Citizenship
  The student who demonstrates citizenship understands the importance of civic engagement; has a high regard for freedom and justice; respects the U.S. form of government; respects the law for all citizens at the local, state, and federal levels; and demonstrates mature participation and responsibility in activities such as scouting, community organizations, or school clubs.

In preparation for the state play-off game on November 4th, each Dearborn High School varsity football player selected a teacher who inspires him to wear his jersey to school and at the pep rally.  Teachers were humbled and grateful for this show of appreciation.

Bryant Middle School will once again participate in Pink Shirt Day.  Facilitated by students in an Enrichment class focused on leadership, there is a daily activity focused on anti-bullying.  Advisory classes will participate in these daily activities leading up to Pink Shirt Day on October 21st.  Please enjoy today’s student-made video:  the history of pink shirt day.

On October 11th and 12th, Dearborn High School student council members and Mrs. Osinski visited Lindbergh and Duvall for our Battle Against Hunger! Mrs. Daneen and Mr. Attee have been so supportive. On October 11th, Duvall students had already collected enough cans to fill more than one Gleaner box!

Not only are we thankful for Lindbergh and Duvall’s generosity, DHS kids were so honored to be able to visit our mini Pioneers!!
