Mrs. Shakarchi's 3rd Grade Classroom

A big thank you for all the chaperons. All the moms, dads, sisters, grandparents made our field trip filled with joy and peace.  We truly appriciate your help and support! Students and chaperons thought this was one of their favorite field trips of the year!  

Congratulation to our class for winning the multiplication battle.  We had a good competition among the three third grade classrooms.  All third graders were awesome participants.  I explained to the students that the purpose is to get them motivated to learn and practice their facts even if they didn’t win.  Congrats to all.

Multiplication Battle between third grade classrooms will be held next week.  Please practice the multiplication facts with your child. Our class and Mrs. Seay’s will face each other, and the winner will face off Mrs. McGarrett’s class…Good luck to all of us 🙂

Charity Walk

Good Morning,

This Tuesday and Wednesday we will have the English M-Step state testing.  This is an important test, so please have your son/daughter practice some of the articles/ passages I send home.

Few tips to help your child do better on the test:

1. Get enough sleep.  Children need 8-10 hours of sleep to be able focus better.
2. Send a healthy snack to school.
3. Eat a healthy breakfast.
4. Read and answer the comprehension questions together.
5. Give them lots of encouragement and support!  🙂

Thanks for all the chaperones who volunteered yesterday.  We had an amazing trip and enjoyed visiting a couple of Detroit treasures.

Today’s Concert was outstanding. Students did a marvelous job performing their well practiced songs and instruments.  I had to hold myself from getting emotional about it.  They are simply perfect. Thanks for attending the concert.

I will be sending English  M-Step practice book for the weekend to review and prepare for the test. Please review with your child so they will be ready for the test.  We practiced on-line and on paper test taking strategies and reading strategies.

We learned about the three types of rocks and how they are formed.

Also, students were little engineers.  They worked on constructing a building from marshmallows and toothpicks.  Ask your child if their building was stable on the table during the simulated earthquake 🙂

What are equivalent fractions?

We are learning about equivalent fractions in class. Talk with your child about how to make equivalent fractions using food items such as pizza, chocolate bars, etc.  This video will help understand this concept.
