Good Morning Families,
Hope you had a wonderful weekend.
Book Orders:Thanks for everyone who ordered from Scholastic Book order for the month of October. Your orders help build our classroom library. We receive points to get free books with each book order. If you haven’t, you still have time to put it your orders. All orders are due on October 24th.
Test:
Unit 1 Math test will be on Tuesday October 18th. A study guide was sent home Friday. Please review the skills with your daughter/son.
Math Unit 2
We will start unit 2 Wednesday. In this unit, children will work on addition and subtractions of whole numbers, with special emphasis on the basic facts and their extensions; solutions strategies for addition and subtraction number stories; and addition and subtraction computation with multidigit.
Multiplication facts:
Students need to practice the multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction facts daily. Many of the students enjoy practicing their skills on their favorite websites such as Math Magician, Frontrow, Mobymax, and Multiplication.com.
Writing:
Our focus for this week is narrative writing. We will focus on these lessons: adding transitions, adding dialogue, details, an introduction, and conclusion. They will be graded on three things: indenting each paragraph, the use of transition words, and dialogue.
Science:
A vocabulary study sheet and a study guide are coming home today. Please have your child focus on the highlighted words only. We will have a quiz Friday.
Fluency folders go home “usually” on Fridays and are due the following Friday. However, due to last Friday’s rush, the new passage will be sent home today. It is due the following Monday. Please make sure to practice every night and answer the comprehension questions. This reading time can count towards their 20 minutes daily reading. I know parents are super busy with so many things, so please feel free to choose any four days to read and record the number of words per one minute.
Story of the Week:
Students receive the new prompt on Monday and return it completed with one paragraph of 5-8 sentences. They have seven days to finish this homework. To clarify, this is how it works:
Monday: Plan
Tuesday: Draft
Wednesday: Revise
Thursday: Publish
If students need more time, please feel free to chunk the writing over the one week period. This writing homework is for enjoyment and to build up their writing skills and stamina.
Wishing all of you a great week.
