Please Read…Social Study Assessment

Good Evening,

I just came back from a social studies committee meeting and found out that the deadline for the assessment is this Friday not next Friday.  Therefore, I have to move up the social studies test to this Thursday or Friday.   I apologize for any inconvenience.

Please have your child do a final review of the study guide that was sent Tuesday.

I appreciate your help and continued support,

Mrs. Shakarchi

December 12th Weekly Updates

Dear Families,

Hope you stayed warm in this very cold and white weekend.

NWEA in reading, language, math, and science will be given after the New Year.  Please continue to have your child practice Math and Reading skills using Mobymax and other NWEA sites.  We are working hard every day in class during Daily 5 and Math workshop to practice needed skills. Most of the students know how to log to Clever in class.  They need their School ID number and date of birth. I will be glad to send the information home if needed.

Reading: Please have students read for 20-30 minutes, and to ask comprehension questions.   Remind the students to log their reading minutes on the Book It log.

Writing/Social Studies: our focus is informational writing.  We have been writing about Native Americans life in Michigan. This week we want to make sure we have enough details and examples for each paragraph.  Some students are researching in class and adding more details.  They might need extra time at home, so please allow them with your supervision to research about their topic.

Social Studies: #2 social studies packet will come home this week.  It will contain  vocabulary words, article, questions,  and a study guide for the upcoming Social Studies test on Wednesday, December 21st .  This common assessment is district mandated and will be giving on the chrome books, so please have students study for it in advance.

Math Test: We are continuing working on Unit 4 (multiplication and division).  A study guide will come home this Friday .  We will have a test will be on 11/20. Please have students practice using the multiplication table for answering the division problems.

Homework: A reading and math homework will be sent home every day except Fridays unless we have a test or unfinished class writing.

Fluency and Story of the Week will be sent home.  I have many students who didn’t do their Fluency and Story of the Week for two weeks in a row.  I gave them a chance last week because they said they forgot them.  Please make sure they bring them Monday.

Have a great week and thanks so much for your great work and support.

Story of the Week: a new prompt will be sent home today. We love how the students are expressing themselves through this free write.
Math: 3.OA.2

For example, describe a context in which a number of shares or a number of groups can be expressed as 56 ÷ 8.
