Weekly Updates

Welcome back! I hope you enjoyed your winter break with your families.

Spelling: list #17~er,ir,ur, and ire

Reading: 20-30 minutes of daily reading is highly recommended. Record minutes on February logs please. (Mobymax and Myon reading can be used towards the 30 minutes reading) March logs are coming this week.

Writing: CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.2.2
Write informative/explanatory texts in which they introduce a topic, use facts and definitions to develop points, and provide a concluding statement or section.(Animals) Also, students will Participate in shared research and writing projects (foe example, read a number of books on a single topic to produce a report; record science observations.

Fluency: a new fluency will be sent home today. Please have your child read the passage four times a week. Each time should include three attempts. Have them answer the questions in a complete sentence and underline their evidence in the text.
Story of the Week: a new prompt will be sent home today. We love how the students are expressing themselves through this free write.

Math:
We are studying unit 7. In this unit, students extend their knowledge of basic multiplication and division skills by looking patterns. Students will continue to develop their understanding of the relationship between multiplication and division through strategies and concrete materials. Unit test will on around 3/23 or 3/24.  A study guide will be sent home.  Please continue using Mobymax and Frontrow.

Science: This unit is divided into two learning cycles. In the first cycle of this unit students investigate how physical and behavioral characteristics help organisms meet their survival needs.

We will investigate these questions-

What is the relationship between the structure and the function of plant and animal parts?
How do plant and animal adaptations help them meet their survival needs?
How do scientists use observable specialized structures to classify organisms?
How do scientists use a classification system to identify plants and animals?

 

Snacks: Thanks for providing your child a healthy snack. The students really enjoy them!
