Remote Learning Plan starting 4/20/2020

remote learning

Dear Juniors,

There are a few options you have to demonstrate your learning and engagement each week.

Option 1: The standard assignment will be to read a short story we assign you and complete one of the options provided, usually asking you to analyze the piece for rhetorical situation, provide some sort of look at the craft that went into making it, or make an argument based on what you read.

Option 2: Another option will be for you to continue on with your research project. If you have a subject about which you are passionate and you want to finish what you started, we are all here to support you as you continue.

Option 3: For those of you who are our voracious independent readers, there is a possibility for you to continue your independent reading and still demonstrate the same skills and learning as you would with the other assignments. **If you remember, we have those 12 different options for reading responses that you can choose from.

Option 4: Finally, for those of you who are focusing on being ready for the SAT when it is an option again, there are options to use Khan Academy to demonstrate some advanced proficiency as well.

Required: We also will be asking you to journal from time to time. There may be prompts involved, or we may simply be asking you to document your experiences and work out on paper your thoughts and feelings about the times we are living in.

What will likely happen is each language arts teacher in the 11th grade will pick different options for his/her classes (just as we always did) from this jointly-created list of ideas (just as we always made). We will likely work with you to establish a more personalized curriculum for each of you (student A does the short stories, B does the research, C does the SSR, everybody journals, etc). Our goal is to provide learning that is tailored to your needs and situation and that moves you forward on your skills while allowing you to remain as mentally and emotionally healthy as possible.
