Governor’s Stay Home-Stay Safe order means another day off school. Free meals, online learning will continue.
As many of you know, this morning Gov. Whitmer issued a Stay Home-Stay Safe order. We wanted to update what this means for the schools.
1.Schools will now be closed THROUGH April 13. We were planning to return that day, but now are scheduled to return Tuesday, April 14. Obviously, that could change as the situation evolves.
2. SMITH IS A FOOD DISTRIBUTION SITE. Free meal distributions will continue during the shelter-in-place period. Providing food is an “essential service.” In fact, we now are planning to extend the meal distribution through our spring break, so food will be handed out Monday to Friday through at least April 13.
3. Online learning will continue. While current state law says the learning cannot count as “seat time,” Gov. Whitmer has clarified that “does not mean that school work done during the mandatory school closure won’t ‘count’ toward grades, credits, or graduation.” (Teachers and students are still officially scheduled for spring break from April 6-10, so there might be a week off during your weeks off.)
We will continue to work to keep you posted on changes and have information at firstbell.dearbornschools.org. Meanwhile, please stay safe out there everyone.
Greetings Vikings!

Your assignment is to complete: 1.) A total of three iReady My Path lessons. Remember, to get to iReady you must go to the Dearborn Schools website, click on student resources, click on CLEVER, and then click on iReady. Continue on with the next available lesson. You do not have to do them all in one day. You may spread them out across the week. 2.) You will also find one teacher assigned lesson on iReady. This will be a 6th grade review lesson from earlier in the year. I am also linking a Khan Academy video to help you if you get stuck. If you have trouble, email me. *If you are behind on the lessons from last week, do your best to get caught up this week. Of you have any extra time this week, feel free to get on mappers for some extra math practice. Enjoy the week! |
Dearborn Schools has announced that O.L. Smith will be added as a student meal distribution site starting on Monday, March 23.
Students, parents or a family representative can stop by any of meal locations from 10 a.m. to noon each week day to pick up meals. One bag will be handed out for each child under 18 in the home. The Dearborn School student does not need to attend school at that building. Students do not need to be present, and a designated person can pick up meals for all the children in the family.
The free grab-and-go meals include food for lunch and breakfast. Meals for Saturday and Sunday can be picked up on Friday.
Six other food sites opened on Tuesday, including Fordson, Edsel Ford and Dearborn high schools; McCollough-Unis; Salina Intermediate; and Woodworth Middle School.
Signage at each site will direct parents and students to where to enter the building. Food will be near entrances, usually near the kitchen, to minimize the amount of time community members spend in the facilities.
The grab-and-go meals will be served at least through April 3.
Greetings Vikings!
I hope you are all well and enjoying good health!
Starting on Monday, Smith will be distributing breakfast and lunch packages to families for any child under the age of 18. We will have a drive through system on the Notre Dame side of the building between 10-12pm.
Teachers and staff members have been in contact with all students via Google Classroom, iblog, e-mail, etc.
If you do not have computer access and have not heard from a staff member regarding the loaning of chrome books, please email me immediately- jebrilz@dearbornschools.org.
Thank you and please be well and stay safe!
