How to join Mrs. Scannell’s Google Classroom

1. Download the Google Classroom App on your tablet or phone, or go to https://www.classroom.google.com if you are using a laptop. The website will not allow you to choose “use camera” for your work.
   You must use the Google Classroom App on a tablet or phone.
2. Log-in using your school email account (don’t forget @dearbornschools.org).
3. Tap the + in the upper right-hand corner and choose “Join Class”
4. Copy and paste or type in the class code that matches your teacher. Be sure to type it EXACTLY as it shows up below.
5. Select the belt you would like to test on and use your device’s camera or webcam to record yourself playing. Attach the video to the correct belt.
6. Submit your assignment so I can score your playing and give you feedback.
7. You need 3 or 4 points to earn the belt. If you get 1 or 2 points, you’ll have to try again.

Questions and Answers

How do I submit a video?

• Click on the belt you want to test on, and choose “add attachment”. Choose “use camera” and make sure you switch to video so you can record yourself playing.
• Play the piece, and when you are finished, submit the video.
• Make sure you actually submit the video. If you don’t, I can see it but I can’t score you on it.

Why isn’t Google Classroom loading?

• This is a mystery of the internet. Try again in a few minutes, or try closing the app and restarting it. You could also try restarting your device.

How do I submit a video using a lap top?

• Use your laptop’s webcam to record a video of yourself playing the test song.
• Save the video, remember where you saved it and what you called it!
• Click on the belt you want to test on, and choose “add attachment”.
• Select the file location where the video of you playing is saved.
• Attach the file and submit your assignment.

Can I try again?

• Of course!! If you do not pass on your first attempt, you are allowed to resubmit a new video to improve your score.
• You can resubmit a video as many times as you like until you get the score you want.

Why hasn’t my video been scored yet???????

• It is possible that I am simply busy. I try to check videos each evening, but sometimes I have other stuff to do 🙂
• Try posting a private comment that says something like “check my yellow belt”. This will pop up immediately on my iPad and I will know I have a new video to watch.
• You may have forgotten to hit “submit.” I can only score videos that have been submitted.

Where can I get the music to practice?

• All music for testing is available on the Google Classroom site.
• Sheet music and YouTube accompaniment tracks are also on this blog under “Fourth Grade Recorder Resources”, but you will have to use the “top secret” password to log in. Hint: 2+2=…?

When and where can I get my belt?

• Remind me at the beginning or end of your regular music class and I can give you your belt.

The “use camera” option doesn’t show up! Help!

The “use camera” option only shows up from within the app. Make sure you have the Google Classroom App downloaded. The option will not show up from the website, that is for laptops or computers only.
