Coronavirus Understanding

At least once a week in our classroom, we do a Social Studies lesson on a News-2-You article. News-2-You is a website that connects people with unique learning needs to current events. I have included the News-2-You article on how the Coronavirus has caused many things to shut down so we are can quarantine and protect ourselves. I miss the students so much and my heart breaks because they are probably feeling confused and sad about not going to school. I hope that this article can help them get a little understanding.

School Closure

Although we will be off of school for a month, we still need to keep the children’s brains hard at work. Please continue to work with your child on ABCs, numbers, counting, identifying their name, matching, cutting, writing, language, etc. It would be a great idea to look at your child’s IEP and work on the skills listed on the goals and objectives page. Please try your best to limit recreational screen time for your child! Encourage them to do educational activities and engage in fine motor and gross motor activities. I have been researching some free educational websites and apps for students to use while at home during this closure. I will list the few that I know of below and will update my blog as I discover new ones.

-Starfall.com
-Sesamestreet.org
-Pbskids.org

I will miss each and every child and I look forward to seeing them when we return to school. If you have any questions, you may contact me via the Remind app or by email: bowdels@dearbornschools.org . I will post any updates that I receive on the blog as I get them.

Thank you,
Ms. Bowdell
