Week in Review

-Handwriting Letter of the Week: R
-Phonics Letter of the Week: W
-Math: Addition & Subtraction

-We continued to learn about winter: the weather, activities, what it looks like, and what we wear. We read interactive books about winter in groups.
-We learned about summer: the weather, activities, what it looks like, and what we wear. We read interactive books about summer and got to play with sand!
-Ms. Bowdell brought in winter items (mittens, hat, scarf, coat, boots, and earmuffs) and summer items (sunscreen, sunglasses, sandals, bathing suit, shorts, and tank top) and we sorted them by season.
-We learned about our new month, February! The children were very excited for a new interactive calendar! We did an interactive activity on the Promethean Board titled ‘February in my Classroom’ and read a mini book with February words. Each child picked a February word. We did a writing project using the word that they picked.

-We learned about Groundhog Day. The students predicted whether they think the Groundhog will see his shadow or not.

-This afternoon we will learn about the Super Bowl. The students will predict which team they think will win the Super Bowl.
I will try my best not to convince them to root for the Eagles… 😉

-We celebrated Jana’s 7th birthday on Wednesday! We had a BLAST! The children absolutely LOVED the yummy cupcakes and fruit that Jana brought in. They were also very excited about the balloons and goodie bags. Thank you so much, Khalaf Family! 🙂
We love you so much, Jana!
Hope you had a wonderful birthday!

Here are some other pictures from the week:

WEEK IN REVIEW

-Handwriting Letter of the Week: B
-Phonics Letter of the Week: Y
-Math: Subtraction

-We graphed our birthday months.
We used our class birthday book as a visual to help us graph.
We discussed which months had more and/or less, and which months had zero birthdays.
The children really enjoyed this!

HERE IS A LINK TO OUR CLASS BIRTHDAY BOOK:
https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1jaakpL_uqox7_vf9ej6JE8QteOi30ODIwugGV8uaG0c/edit?usp=sharing

the kids absolutely love to read it! 🙂

Then we celebrated MohammedAli’s birthday with pizza and cupcakes!

-We read the story The Mitten by Jan Brett. We discussed how animals went in and out of the mitten.
The students made predictions on whether or not they think the animals would fit in the mitten.
After we read the story, we measured how many mittens tall the students are! They really enjoyed being measured by mittens.
Our results were very interesting… we have some very tall kindergarten and first graders in our classroom! 🙂

We graphed our results and discussed who is taller, shorter, and the same height.

In the story, the main character wants a “snow white” mitten. His grandmother tells him that she doesn’t think that a snow white mitten is a good idea because it will blend in with the snow and he will lose it. The boy insisted that his mitten be snow white and so that is what he got!
The students got to decorate their very own mitten JUST the way that THEY wanted to!

-We learned a lot about winter this week and the things that we can see and do in winter.
We painted mittens and gloves for an adorable project. The children really enjoyed painting!
We haven’t finished it yet, but I can’t wait to share pictures!
Once the project is completed they will go up in the hallway but I will share pictures on the blog.

We did a winter writing project.
The students picked their favorite winter activity.

I think we will have to have some hot chocolate in our classroom soon! 😉
