WEEK IN REVIEW

-Handwriting Letter of the Week: B
-Phonics Letter of the Week: Y
-Math: Subtraction

-We graphed our birthday months.
We used our class birthday book as a visual to help us graph.
We discussed which months had more and/or less, and which months had zero birthdays.
The children really enjoyed this!

the kids absolutely love to read it! πŸ™‚Β

Then we celebrated MohammedAli’s birthday with pizza and cupcakes!

-We read the storyΒ The Mitten by Jan Brett. We discussed how animals went in and out of the mitten.
The students made predictions on whether or not they think the animals would fit in the mitten.
After we read the story, we measured how many mittens tall the students are! They really enjoyed being measured by mittens.
Our results were very interesting… we have some very tall kindergarten and first graders in our classroom! πŸ™‚

We graphed our results and discussed who is taller, shorter, and the same height.

In the story, the main character wants a “snow white” mitten. His grandmother tells him that she doesn’t think that a snow white mitten is a good idea because it will blend in with the snow and he will lose it. The boy insisted that his mitten be snow white and so that is what he got!
The students got to decorate their very own mitten JUST the way that THEY wanted to!

-We learned a lot about winter this week and the things that we can see and do in winter.
We painted mittens and gloves for an adorable project. The children really enjoyed painting!
We haven’t finished it yet, but I can’t wait to share pictures!
Once the project is completed they will go up in the hallway but I will share pictures on the blog.

We did a winter writing project.
The students picked their favorite winter activity.

I think we will have to have some hot chocolate in our classroom soon! πŸ˜‰

Welcome Back!

I hope that everyone had a fun and relaxing 2 weeks off of school!
My break was enjoyable but I really missed the kiddos.
I was so excited to see them on Monday!

(Abrar and Jana were so excited to see each other when they returned to school!)

We have had a busy week of fun and learning!

We learned about the New Year.
We even celebrated by having our very own New Years Eve party!
We had so much fun!

We learned about our new month, January.
We learned new words that are associated with the month.
We each picked a January word for our January class book and January writing activity.
For our writing activity, we put together a sentence with the word we picked and color a picture to match.
We display it in the hallway so our peers can see our great work!

We learned about birthdays!
We read books about the different ways people celebrate their birthday and the different kinds of birthday cakes.
We read a class birthday book that Ms. Bowdell created.
We practiced remembering our birthdays and drew pictures of ourselves on our birthday.

And then…
we celebrated Abrar’s 8th birthday! πŸ™‚
