Good afternoon Smith Viking family,
I cannot believe we are approaching the last week before Winter Break, and this will be my last post for 2017! It has been a busy but eventful first semester! I wish you all a wonderful and safe Winter Break! As the Winter Solstice approaches us this Thursday, I hope you are prepared for the upcoming winter season full of new adventures.

Boys Basketball vs. Salina -home
This week in Science:
- We will review for the upcoming Science test on Thursday/Friday A-B Days regarding the similarities between the structure and function of plant and animal cell organelles. The best study guide to prepare them for both the project and test are:
- Plant and Animal Cell Flipbooks
- Cell Parts Chart Table
- Lecture powerpoint (posted on Google Classroom)
- Students will be given time in class to work with their small group of 4-5 to finalize their playdoh model of the cell, and their blueprint of a school to reveal their understanding of the organelles and their functions through “Cell to School analogy” project.
- Students will get a chance to explain their blueprint and model to their peers as they travel from table to table in a Gallery Walk format.
- I wish all the best of luck on their class project, and test this week; BOTH ARE SUMMATIVE and worth 100 points each.
- When we return from break, we will be changing gears in Science and move from Life Science (CELLS) to Earth Science (Weather & Climate)!
Have a wonderful week and Winter Break!
Happy Holidays and Happy New Year to you ALL!
Mrs. Savage
