Arrival and Dismissal Times
The bell for students to enter the building is at 8:35 a.m.
The tardy bell will ring at 8:40
Dismissal is at 3:35 p.m.
Half-Day dismissal is at 11:45 a.m.
Late start days will begin at 9:35 a.m.
If you are tardy and the entry doors are locked you must enter through the front office doors and sign your student in.
Our class will line up daily on the number “6” on the lower elementary blacktop.
Transportation
If you are eligible to ride the bus you will receive a postcard with information from the Transportation Department, Dearborn Public Schools.
Please communicate with me how your student will leave school and typically who with.
If there is a change in transportation or who is picking up the student it must be called into the office or you must send a note informing me of the changes with a parent signature. STUDENTS WILL NOT BE RELEASED TO ANYBODY WITHOUT SIGNED PERMISSION.
Red Communication Folders
Students will bring home red communication folders daily. In this folder expect to find student work and or information from the school. Please be sure to empty and return the folder every day!
Snack
Please pack a healthy snack for your child every day. Make sure they know it is their snack and not their lunch. Mark it “snack” or use a different container other than their lunchbox.
We will have morning snack.
No juice please. Water bottles are encouraged.
Birthdays
Students are welcome to celebrate their birthday in class with a small treat. Please communicate when and what you are bringing into school so I can plan and check for allergies. Birthday celebrations will take place toward the end of our school day. Please keep in mind small simple treats or goodie bags work best.
Lunch
Our lunch period is at 11:40 a.m.
Students will eat first and then be dismissed to the playground.
Students may bring their lunch in a lunch box or order school lunch.
All Dearborn Schools students qualify for a free school lunch. Lunch menus will be sent home for planning.
Extra Clothes
Please send in an extra set of clothes for your student to keep in the top shelf of their locker for accidents. I have found that keeping them in a grocery bag or gallon Ziploc bag works best. Please write your student’s name on the bag.
Back Packs
Although the students are small a “normal sized” backpack instead of the junior sized back pack works best. Especially in the winter packing shoes, boots and snow pants.
School Supplies
The Y5 supply list can be found on the Lindbergh blog under “suggested school supplies.” Supplies can be sent in at any time.
Special Classes
Students will attend gym, art, music and the media center/computer lab classes. A schedule of which days these classes will occur will come home soon.
Please wear tennis shoes on gym days.
Quiet Time
Students will not be taking formal naps during the day. After lunch we will return to the room for a bathroom break, drink break and quiet time. This is usually soft music and coloring or watching a short PBS show. At this time your student can also rest their head on their table or the carpet.
School Calendar
Please be aware of the Kindergarten/ Y5 release days. There will be no school for Kindergarten/Y5 only on these days:
- Friday, September 27, 2019
- Friday, February 7, 2020
Field Trips
If you plan to chaperone any field trips (we should have 2 this year) you must have a completed background check on file. Many of you may have completed this paperwork when you registered your student. If not, please stop by the office to do so.
Classroom Rules and Discipline – PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention System)
The students and I will come up with our classroom rules together. If a student breaks a rule we have a “clip system” we follow. Students start every day with their clip on green.
- First time they break a rule: Verbal warning
- Second time: They move their clip to yellow (warning)
- Third time: They move their clip to orange (time out chair)
- Fourth time: They move their clip to red (sent to the office and a phone call to the parent)
PBIS means we try to correct negative behavior with positive language.
We will also hold month reward parties for students who stay on “green” 90% of the month.
I am looking forward to a positive school year and want to be able to answer any questions or concerns you may have. Please do not hesitate to contact me.
