Newsletter from Friday (9-13)

PBIS (Positive Behavior)

We started with our positive behavior marking system this week.  If a student breaks a classroom rule the following will happen:

1st time a rule is broken they will move to yellow =  “SLOW DOWN” (warning)

2nd time a rule is broken they will move to orange =  “Contact Co-Pilot”  (time out or time out from recess)

3rd time a rule is broken they will move to red =  “Turbulence”  (sent to the principal)

At any time if the student is found improving their behavior they may move their clip back to green = “GREAT JOB!  FLYING HIGH”

Your student’s behavior report will come home daily on the back of their red communication folder.  Please sign and return the behavior chart daily.

*** Our first reward for the month of September is extra playground time and POPSICLES!  The student earns this reward by moving their clip less than 6 times.  This reward will happen at the end of September.

Snack vs. Lunch

Please remember to pack 1-2 small snacks daily.

Please discuss with your child what is packed for snack and what is packed for lunch.  Please try to label their snack or pack it separate from the lunch box.

Students are welcome to bring and leave water bottles in their locker for throughout the day.

Family Picture

We would like to decorate our classroom and make it feel “like home.”  Please send in an unframed 3×5 picture of your family at your convenience.  We will be making and decorating frames in class for them.

**We would like to do this in time for Open House!

Library Book Checkout

We visited the library and checked out our first library book this past Tuesday.  We discussed how to take care of our book and keep it safe from damage.  These books need to be returned every Tuesday in order to check out a new book.

Book Fair

We will visit the Scholastic Book Fair on Monday the 16th.  Monday is our “browsing” day.  Your student will come home with a “wish list” and prices.

Curriculum

  • This week your student met their first Alpha friend, “SAMMY SEAL.”  Ask them what sound letter “S” and Sammy Seal make!
  • In Math we explored the names of our pattern block shapes, we explored measuring with paper, getting to know our Number Grid and practicing our route counting.
  • We still are working on our classroom rules and routines.
  • In “Daily 5” we continued to talk about the “3 Ways to Read a Story” and we modeled that with our Read Aloud stories.
  • We completed a name assessment and name craft.
  • I will begin assessing the children on their alphabet knowledge and some basic other literacy tasks next week.
