Friday Newsletter, June 6th

Thank you dads for taking time to celebrate Father’s Day with us!  We hope your morning was enjoyable!

Thank you moms for the donations!

Field Day

Our outdoor field day will be next Wednesday afternoon, June 11th.  Please dress for the weather – think about sunscreen as well.  Gym shoes work best for the relay races and there may even be some water games.

Relay for Life

We will be engaging in our Relay for Life activities Wednesday morning before our field day activities.  This includes walking the track and attending an assembly.

The Last Day of School, June 12th

The last day of school is a half-day.  Dismissal is at 11:45 a.m.

What We Did This Week

Our new high frequency word was, “she”

We rotated through Daily 5 and finished end of the year reading assessments.

In Writer’s workshop we wrote about our dad’s all week – (The students were very excited that Donuts for Dad was coming soon.)

In Science we replanted Lima Bean seeds to bring home (our classroom seeds rotted).  🙁

We have been enjoying games like math/abc/ and sound BINGO.

* Donuts for Dad will start at 9:00 a.m. and last a little bit over an hour.  Please come to the classroom.  We are looking forward to seeing you!

We worked in our Writer’s Workshop writing observations of our Lima Beans

In Science we continue to talk about Living Things, Parts of a Plants, and the Needs of Living Things

We worked hard on our Father’s Day books

Reading Bags

I have collected student reading bags.  The leveled books will remain in the classroom for students to read during “Daily 5.”

The students are keeping their ring of high frequency words in their book boxes until the end of the school year.

Donuts for Dad

There is a “secret letter” coming home today in your student’s red folder – Moms, we need your help!

There is also a reminder invite for June 6th.  Dads, please let me know if you can make it!

Planting Day

Our class will help with school planting and beautification tomorrow afternoon.

What We Did (Last Week!)

In Math we continue to practice simple addition and subtraction with our ten frames.

Student reports on “The Chameleon” came home last week.  This was our practice with informational writing.

In Science we have been talking about the needs of Living Things and parts of a plant.  We will plant and observe Lima Beans this week!

Save the date!  Donuts for Dad will be Friday, June 6th.  The invitations are coming home today.

Publishing Center Books

Publishing Center books are also coming home today.

What We Did This Week

Our new high frequency word was, “look”

We have been working with non-fiction and informational text and in Writer’s Workshop we have been writing facts!  Our reports will come home next week!

In Math we have introduced subtraction using our ten frames.

In Science we began to discuss Living vs. Non-Living Things.

Thank you for all of the kind words and gifts during Teacher Appreciation week.  Your thoughtfulness means so much.

Thank you to all of the mothers who were able to make it to “Muffins for Moms” – and we missed the ones who were not able to attend and we hope that everyone had a great Mother’s Day.

“Donuts for Dad” will be the morning of June 6th – Save the date!

Don’t forget there is a Late Start tomorrow, May 14th.  School will begin at 9:35 a.m.

News and Information

April Reward for PBIS

Because of the weather the reward for positive behavior for the month of April is being moved to Monday, May 5th.  Those students earning the reward will enjoy a game of Dodge Ball and extra recess outside.

Mother’s Day Celebration

We are looking forward to seeing all of the moms next Friday afternoon at 2:00 in the classroom.  We have some special plans and the day will end with treats in the cafeteria.

What We Did This Week

We reviewed previously learned sight words and will begin with a new one next week.

Students did not receive a new title in their book bags.  We have been using small group time for end of the year assessment.

We have been working hard on illustrating our Publishing Center books and Mother’s Day project.

In Math we have been counting by 2’s (skip counting) and using our ten frames to “add” counting bears.
