IXL

I hope everyone saw the letter about the new IXL program I signed the students up for. You should have also gotten an email with your student’s username and password.

If you did not please email me for the username and password.

IXL addresses Math and English Language Arts.

I thought the English Language Arts portion would help with skills we would usually learn in small groups if we were at school.

The IXL program is also adaptive meaning the software can read if the student needs more challenging questions or easier ones.

Feel free to use the PreK or Kindergarten portion.

Let me know if you have any questions.

There is also an IXL app.

Have Fun!!!!

Google Hangout

Our class will try it’s first Google Hangout on Monday, April 20th at 11:00 a.m.

I will post on the blog the link for the hangout about 10 minutes before 11:00 a.m.

When using Google Hangout for the first time it will ask permission to access your microphone and access your camera. Please “allow.”

Please sit near your student and teach them where the “mute your mic” button is.

The first time meeting will be a little chaotic but fun! I can’t wait to see all of the smiling faces.

Going forward we will develop a pattern of 2 virtual meetings a week.

Google Classroom

Hello Y5 5 Families,

Some changes are coming in order for me to be in compliance of the district’s continuing learning plan.

Instead of blogging resources for the Y5 students I will be making assignments in the Yong 5’s folder that is located in the Kindergarten Google Classroom.

So first we need to make sure everyone can successfully access the Kindergarten Google Classroom. Please email me if you still can’t access.

Once in the Google Classroom click on Classwork (at the top of the page).

You will see the Y5 folder. Click on the folder and there is a practice assignment in the folder about patterns. Once you take a look at the assignment and go over it with your student click Turn In to receive credit.

THIS IS JUST PRACTICE! But “turning in work” will be how your student will be graded for participating during the 4th marking period.

You can print the patterns worksheet or talk about it on the computer screen or draw it out on scratch paper – that is up to you and what works best for your family. You can take a picture of your work and attach it before turning it in or you can simply click turn in.

Give it a try!

Feel free to email me with questions!

IXL Program, 30 Day Free Trial

Dear Y5 Families,

I am pleased to tell you that we will be using a website called IXL during the COVID school shut down. IXL is a comprehensive learning program offering unlimited math and language arts practice across thousands of skills—all of which are aligned to the Common Core. One of the best things about IXL is that your child can access it from home, so you have a chance to see your child’s progress!

To get your child started on your home computer, please follow these easy steps:

  1. Go to https://www.ixl.com
  • Enter your child’s username and password and click “Sign in.”
YOU SHOULD RECEIVE AN EMAIL WITH THE USER NAME AND PASSWORD – LET ME KNOW IF YOU DON’T GET AN EMAIL
  • Click on any skill to start learning!

IXL is designed to help your child learn at his or her own pace. The program is adaptive and will adjust based on your child’s demonstrated understanding of the material. All of your child’s results will be saved, so you can monitor his or her progress anytime by clicking on Analytics. For on-the-go practice, you can download IXL’s free tablet apps for iPad, Android, or Kindle and sign in with your child’s username and password.

To replace many of the reading skills that would be addressed in small reading groups I am hoping this program continues to build their skills for Kindergarten.

I will assign 10-15 minutes of practice daily in the Google Classroom, but feel free to use it whenever you would like.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Ruselink

Google Classroom

Y5 Families,

I need to transition our class primarily to using Google Classroom. Some families are already trying the Kindergarten Google Classroom and that’s great! We will stay in that classroom but there will be a Y5 folder.

If you are still struggling with logging on can you please contact me through email? I will need to keep track of completed assignments and attendance.

Thanks!

Mrs. Ruselink
