Santa Shop

The Young 5’s will have the opportunity to shop at the “Santa Shop” on Thursday, December 4th.

All items are 2.00.

An envelope is being sent home today for you to create a “shopping list” for who your child would like to shop for.

Money and lists can be brought in Thursday morning.

Thank you!

A note from Mrs. DeNeen

Please note that the guideline for having outdoor recess, lining up outside in the morning, and having safeties on outside posts has been changed.  If the wind chill is 20 degrees F or above students will wait outside in the morning, will be having outside recess, and corner safeties will be on post.  If the wind chill or air temperature is 19 degrees F or below students will line up inside in the morning, will have indoor recess and no corner safeties will be on post.  There are many students who are being dropped off as early as 7:45 am, which is way too early.  Please be aware that while students are welcome to play outside for a short time before school, there is no school staff supervision of these students.  Also, when it is too cold to line up outside the student lines in the hallway will be supervised  by teachers starting at 8:25 am.  Please do not drop off students early on these “inside” days unless they are going to breakfast.  Breakfast is served in the cafeteria starting at 8:15 am.  The cost is $1.25.  Parents who need to drop students off early can contact Kids’ Club to enroll their children.  This service is available for a fee but then you would know your child is being appropriately supervised.  We want all students to be safe!

Good Behavior Reward Party for November

Tuesday, December 2nd – We will be watching a short movie and you may bring a “junkie snack” from home

Late Start

Wedensday, December 10th

What We Did This Week

We reviewed all of our Alpha Friends

In math we played dice games to practice counting and reading numbers

In Science we “popped corn” and used our five senses to observe what was happening

We read many stories about Thanksgiving

We had our first Lock Down drill today.  I called it a “listening drill” with the students meaning we had to lock the door, turn off the lights, and sit close together in a corner of the classroom.  I told the students we needed to “listen” for directions from Mrs. DeNeen on the walkie talkie.

Have a good holiday.

We are watching a short movie and you may bring your favorite “junkie snack”

Winter Clothes/ Boots

Winter has come early!  Thank you for dressing your student so warm!  Please remember to pack tennis shoes if your child wears snow boots to school.  They will need to change into shoes before coming in the classroom so we can keep the floor and rug area clean and dry.

If the temperature is above 20 degrees (with windshield) we are allowed to be outdoors for recess and morning line up.  If the temperature is below that there will be indoor recess and students are allowed to line up against their locker in the hallway in the morning.

What We Did This Week

Our new AlphaFriend was Callie Cat, letter C

In math we continued work with patterns, writing numerals and using our geometric shape templates to draw shapes.

During Daily 5 we used the Wikki Stix to outline alphabet letters, listened to a story about Bears, wrote in our Work on Writing notebook and selected new texts for Read to Self.

In handwriting this week we focused on letter E, using “big line” and “little lines”

In Science we used our sense of sight to observe color changes using water and food coloring.

We continue to read and write about Thanksgiving.

We had a lot of time to interact during Free Choice (with indoor recess all week) and work on play skills.

Have a good weekend!
