What We Did This Week

We made it through full days of school!

We continue to practice classroom, playground and school rules and routines.

The students visited art, gym and music classes this week.

As a class we continue to read many stories about coming to school.

ELA (English Language Arts):

We focused on letters Mm and Ss this week in addition to introducing rhyming words and initial sounds.

Writing:

Students were introduced to their journals this week and we focused on responding to a story we listened to in class.  Right now “drawing” is writing for many of the students.  We will work on detailed pictures to extend our “writing.”

Math:

Students are being introduced to the concepts taught in the Kindergarten Module 1.  These include counting, counting on, the concept of zero and working with numbers 0-5, and attributes of two related objects.

Science:

We will begin to study Push and Pulls in Science

Social Studies:

We are working on getting along with others.  Recognizing emotions and using our words.

The students enjoyed interacting with each other during Free Choice time.

Have a great weekend!

Dear Families,

I want to inform you that I have applied for intermittent FMLA to care for a sick family member.  This means I will be absent from time to time to assist with care giving.  On the afternoons I am absent the students will be with a building substitute teacher.  The students will continue their learning and carry on their same routine.

Mrs. Nettlow (the building sub) is familiar with Lindbergh.

If you have any questions or concerns please contact me.

Our First Week!

We had a great first week!

The majority of our first week concentrated around classroom rules, and expectations. The students worked very hard learning the school routine.

We learned our calendar routine, an apple tree poem and counting songs. We enjoyed learning each other’s names. The students and I read books about coming to school. We played and interacted with each other during Free Choice. The class visited the playground, gym, library, cafeteria and music room. Students practiced eating their lunches with the lunch monitors before dismissal every day.

Next week begins full days of school. Dismissal is at 3:35. Our lunch time will be at 11:40. We will also begin having a morning snack. Please discuss with your student their lunch plan daily and if they are bringing their lunch from home discuss the difference between their “snack” and their “lunch.” Perhaps it can be packed in a different area of their backpack.

Have a great holiday weekend!

Parents Are Invited!

The parents of the Young 5’s class are invited into our classroom the morning of the first day of school (August 26th) for a short introduction to the classroom.

Afterwards there will be a presentation by the PTA in the auditorium.

Looking forward to meeting everybody!
