Pajama Day Tomorrow!

Lindbergh Flyers,

This week our school will be supporting the “Battle Against Hunger” food drive initiative.  As a school, we understand the importance of supporting those in need and giving back to the community.  To increase participation in this great cause, we will have a pajama day on Thursday, November 21.  In order to participate in pajama day, we are asking for each child to bring in at least two canned and/or boxed non-perishable food items to school for donation.

If you are interested in joining the fun, please remember:

  • Wear regular shoes-no slippers
  • Come to school in jammies that are appropriate for school and the weather

Thank you for your help!

What We Did This Week:

We visited art, gym and music.

ELA (English Language Arts):

We focused on letters Ww and Jj this week.We are working on answering questions about our read aloud stories including questions about the characters, setting, problem, solution and discussing the roles of an illustrator and author. We studied syllables of words (parts) and isolating the first sound of a word. We are also discussing basic concepts about print and studying the difference between a letter and a word.

We rotated through Daily 5 and students met with me in small literacy groups. Students are beginning to bring home practice bags (please keep them in the student’s backpack).

Writing:

We continue to write and draw in our journals remembering that a good story includes a character and setting. We are also working on adding details to our pictures. Students are taking turns sharing their stories on the classroom whiteboard.

Students will be introduced to “Opinion Writing”

Math:

In addition to number practice we introduced the names of 3-dimensional shapes this week. We discussed where we find these shapes in everyday life.

Science

We continued our study of The 5 Senses with using our sense of hearing to play Sound BINGO.

Social Studies

We will be introducing the concept of Needs and Wants.

I need parent help by collecting toy, clothes and food advertisements you may find in the mail. Feel free to send them in.

Have a great weekend!

Note from the PTA

Hello Lindbergh Families,
Due to our very welcome (or unwelcome for some) snow day….and the cancelling of conferences, we are going to continue as planned with our meal schedule for conferences.  So tomorrow, just follow the dates of the signup genius and when conferences are rescheduled we will re post about the other meal.  Thank you if you have already signed up, if you haven’t but would like to bring something feel free to check it out and sign up.  Also, the teachers always welcome any treats, so don’t feel like you can’t bring it in just because it isn’t on the sign up.  As always, thank you all so very much for your time, donations and in helping keep our teachers fed on these very, very long conference days.

Don’t forget PTA meeting, Tuesday, November 19th 7pm in the cafeteria.

 Kind Regards, Danielle

Snow Clothes

When we have outdoor recess during the winter months students must have snow pants and snow boots to go on the playground. If they do not – those students will be kept on the black top.

Snow pants can be kept in student lockers for the week and sent home on Fridays. If you would like to have a different plan for snow pants, please discuss your plan with your student.

If the wind chill is below 20 degrees the students will have indoor recess.

Please work with your student to build independent dressing skills! This will help me very much!

Don’t forget to pack shoes for indoors when wearing winter boots. We want to keep our classroom clean and dry!

The lost and found lockers are located right outside the gym doors for when you and your student want to look for that pair of mittens or hat that you just can’t seem to find!

PBIS Reward Celebration

PBIS Reward Celebration

Monday, November 4th

The October reward is playing games with friends.  Students in grades K-2 may bring in board games from home, but please NO ELECTRONIC GAMES! Make sure to label the games with your child’s name. Also, only send in games that your child already knows how to play (suggestions include: checkers, chess, Memory, Connect 4, Sorry, Candyland, Uno, Jenga).

Students in grades 3-5 have received permission to bring in their “electronics” as their game choice. The older students are very excited about this privilege!   Students may bring in DS games, iPods, MP3 players, tablets, etc. at their own risk.  We expect that students will only be playing “school appropriate” games.  Students who do not wish to bring in electronics may bring in board games.

Thank you.

Keep encouraging your child to follow “The Lindbergh Way!”
