2/14/20 – Valentine’s Day Celebration

2/10-2/14 – Blue Ribbon Celebration and Spirit Week

2/17-2/21 Winter Break

What We Did This Week:

ELA:

Our new sight word is “can”

We worked in small groups. Each student should have some emergent readers in their reading bag to practice reading (with our new words). When students are reading please remind them to use their “reading finger”, and use the picture to help them decode unknown words.  We are also learning to check the beginning sound of an unknown word.

Students should also have a “ring of words” in their reading bag. We will add to this as they learn new words.

Reading the alphabet chart and “bouncing” on the letter sounds is also good daily practice.

We have introduced last names as daily practice in class. You can practice this at home too!

Writing:

Continued work with our “Magic C” letters and wrote using our new sight word “can”

Math:

We continue to study counting by tens and writing teen numbers.

Students are using a number bond as a tool to explore addition.  This is a tool used in the Eureka Math program that your student will use more in Kindergarten.

Science:

We continue to observe the weather, record it and did a cut and sort about clothing and different temperatures.

Have a good weekend!

Valentine’s Day

We will celebrate Valentine’s Day in the classroom on Friday, February 14th. We will celebrate with a small treat, exchanging cards, and a craft. This is a smaller party than Halloween or the Holiday party (volunteers are not needed at this time).

Valentine Cards

The easiest way to prepare cards to exchange with classmates is to have your child on sign his/her name on the card. Do not address the cards. THIS WILL MAKE PASSING OUT CARDS MUCH EASIER. We have 16 students in class (6 girls, 10 boys).

If there are any questions please let me know.

100 Days of School

Thank you ahead of time for all of the donations for the 100th day of school.

We will celebrate in the afternoon. The students will be with a guest teacher in the morning and I will be returning to school at lunch time.

Tomorrow is also the last day to turn in Candy Grams.

Reminders For This Week:

A Scholastic Book Fair “wish list” is coming home with your student today.

100 Days of School donations can be dropped off by Wednesday. We are celebrating Thursday.

No school for Kindergarten and Young Fives this Friday, February 7th.

Late Start Wednesday, February 5th.

100 Days of School!

We are quickly approaching our 100th day of school next Thursday (Feb.6th).

We will be celebrating in class with a couple fun 100th Day activities.

Below is a sign-up for donations. Most of the donations are for our special trail mix snack.

Students will be counting out 100 items to make their snack.

So when purchasing snack items keep in mind that each student (we have 16) will need 10 of the item you are purchasing. For example we will need enough goldfish crackers for each student (16) to have 10 each.

Thank you in advance!

Turn Markers into Energy (Color Cycle)

Dear Families,

I’m excited to tell you about a very special program I’m coordinating at our school in conjunction with Crayola. It’s called Crayola Color Cycle – an amazing program devised to repurpose used markers rather than sending them to landfills!

The Color Cycle program has repurposed more than 70 tons of expended markers in the United States and Canada since 2013, and uses the most advanced plastic conversion technologies available today to make wax compounds for asphalt and roofing shingles as well as to generate electricity that can be used to heat homes, cook food, and power vehicles.

All around Lindbergh, students and teachers will be collecting used markers that are ready to be discarded. Please help support our efforts by sending your kids in with any used markers you may have around the house- even non-Crayola brands! Highlighters and dry erase markers can also be included. Drop-off boxes will be located in your child’s classroom for your child to deposit the markers.

Thank you in advance for participating! With the help of parents like you across the country, the Crayola Color Cycle program can continue to keep tons of plastic out of landfills each year.

Remember, don’t throw out that used marker—Color Cycle it!

Sincerely, Mrs. Currie & the Green Team
