Hello Y5 Families,

I hope you are well.

If you missed the announcement yesterday that you could check a Chrome Book out from Lindbergh for use at home please let me know. I believe Ms. Tiba is arranging to be at Lindbergh for a short time today.

Sight Words:

This is a great activity to practice writing letters and sight words. We use sand at school but you could easily use salt or flour.

Practice the word: “is”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MvJuRgj7pbA

Don’t forget to continue practicing your letter sounds with the Alpha Friends:

Math (number practice):

Try finding a die or two from one of your board games and completing the worksheet below. We have not done tally marks in class – you may need to skip that part.

Fine Motor Practice:

Happy first day of Spring!!!

I know many families may not have a printer at home. If staff is aloud back in in the building anytime soon I am considering making packets of work when I have access to the copy machine. Stay tuned.

Don’t forget there is plenty on the Lindbergh Kindergarten Google classroom as well.

Tell the students I miss them. Hugs to them and “high fives” to all of the parents!

Hello Y5 Families,

I hope everyone is well. Looks like some rain is coming. Are you being a weather watcher?

Counting:

Let’s introduce counting by 2’s! It is also called skip counting because you skip every other number on the number line.

Simple addition and subtraction:

Draw a number bond for mom and dad at home. Can you find about 10 tiny goldfish crackers or candies? Practice putting 7.8. and 9 crackers in the “whole.” Do you remember which part is the whole? The circle with the two paths coming from it. Practice breaking apart 7, 8, and 9 crackers! Then enjoy a snack!

Our next sight word:

Let’s introduce the word “is”

Can you rainbow write the word “is” 5 times??

If you have a printer at home you can try this:

Parents hang in there! You’re doing great! Remember there is grab and go breakfast/lunch bags for the students at Dearborn High from 10:00-noon.

Below is a video you can watch with your student regarding one of our 7 Habits from Leader in Me (Habit 1, be proactive):

“Not being in school or not being able to participate in our regular activities can sometimes make us sad or frustrated. What are some ways that we can ‘be the water,’ or keep calm, even when we feel angry?”

Take care!

Hello Y5 Families,

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

If you feel your student may benefit from free breakfast and lunch please see the district’s food plan at the link below:

https://lindbergh.dearbornschools.org/2020/03/17/dearborn-schools-offering-free-breakfast-and-lunch-pickup-for-students-at-six-sites/

I’m sure you may have seen this floating around social media but author and illustrator Mo Willems will be broadcasting lunch “doodles” daily at 1:00. The students can draw with him! THEY WOULD LOVE THIS! He is the author of the Pigeon stories.

Hope all is well. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me with questions.

Hello Y5 Families,

If you were able to log onto Google classroom great. If not don’t panic. Just keep in touch and we’ll try to figure things out.

The Kindergarten google classroom has many more concepts than our Y5 curriculum. Consider these activities a resource to help students continue academics.

The most important thing you can continue to do is read to your student! Below are some online opportunities for stories:

Just Read Books: https://www.justbooksreadaloud.com/

OTHER IDEAS!

Have your student read to you from their book bag.

Practice writing first and last name (first letter capital, the rest lower case)

Practice writing 1-20 (especially those tricky teens)

Count aloud by 1′, 5’s and 10’s

Try writing our sight words (off the ring of words) in “rainbow writing”

Keep a journal. Make sure students draw characters and a setting. Give them a short sentence stem to finish: “I like to…..”, “We go to….”, “I can….”

More soon! Stay healthy.

Google Classroom

Y5 Parents,

Try the following: send me a quick email if you have success. If you don’t have success don’t panic.

Class code: y7yfc3f; students only need the class code to login for the first time.

  1. Go to https://dearbornschools.org/student-portal/
  2. Once you are there, click the blue box that says clever.
  1. After you click the clever box, you will need to sign in to your student’s Dearborn google account.

Their username is their studentnumber@dearbornschools.org

Their password is their birthdate. mmddyyyy

If for some reason your child does not know their username and password, please reach out to your child’s teacher.

  1. After you have signed into Clever, you will need to scroll down until you see the Google Classroom App picture. Click the picture (this looks like a chalkboard). A picture of what that screen should look like is found below.
  1. After clicking Google Classroom, you should see your child’s classroom page. Please click that page to access your Google Classroom.

Remote Learning Plan, Y5

Y5 Parents,

Due to the Governor’s order to close schools, here are some resources that the Lindbergh Kindergarten classes will be using to ensure that learning is continuing. Young Fives is an introduction to Kindergarten skills and students will benefit from lessons assigned in the Lindbergh Kindergarten google classroom. This is new for the teachers as well so we appreciate your patience.

Here are the three ways we will stay in communication:

Blog:  https://iblog.dearbornschools.org/ruselink

Google Classroom https://classroom.google.com/c/NTMzNjgxOTc0ODFa

Class Dojo (I will send an invite soon).

In the Google Classroom you will find tabs with activities to complete. The goal here will be to keep our learning as current as possible. You will see links to videos, songs, etc. as well as some pencil and paper activities to work on if you are able to print.

Class code: y7yfc3f; students only need the class code to login for the first time.

Math

  • Kindergarten Module lessons will be posted in Google Classroom.
  • Students can write their numbers (0-20) daily and continue to count out loud by 1’s, 5’s and 10’s using the videos I posted in blog entries prior.

Reading

  • Students can continue to read the little books in their reading bag.
  • They can continue to practice the sight words on their ring of words.
  • Some stories will be assigned in Google classroom.
  • Continue to read picture books at home.
  • Find a story online:

Science

Science lessons will be posted on google classroom, in addition we will be asking students to watch and complete activities through mystery science. Mystery science if offering free accounts to all parents to complete these lessons at home.

https://mysteryscience.com/school-closure-planning

Social Studies

Currently social studies lessons will be posted to google classroom, however we may also use Scholastic news resources-that information will be posted to the blog as it is available.

I understand that many families are overwhelmed with the change that is coming in our daily routines.  I am too! My goal is to offer resources. Nothing can replace face to face interactions and teaching. Most importantly stay well, stay healthy, and reach out to me with any concerns or questions you may have.  My love to the students.

Student Numbers

Hello Families

In order to log in and complete anything in our (future) Google classroom the students will need to log into their student email account.

Yes: they have a student account

No: we have never used them in Young Fives

Their log in is their student number@dearbornschools.org

Their password is their birthday, mm/dd/yyyy

If you could send me a quick email (ruselij@dearbornschools.org) I can reply to you with their student number.

Maybe you already know their student number. Usually it is printed on the report card, or you can see it if you use the Parent/Connect app.

Either way, please email me for confirmation.

Hope everyone is well. Hugs to the kids!

Online Learning

Hello Families,

During this time we are home from school the Kindergarten staff is working on setting up a Google classroom to continue learning. Please be patient as we get this up and running.

Students will be expected to complete work.

Please check our classroom blog often for any updated information. If you have any questions feel free to email me (ruselij@dearbornschools.org).

Students should have their reading bags and ring of sight words at home to practice. Keep reading, counting, writing and drawing!

Most of all stay safe, stay well, and give the students hugs from me.

Survey

Hello Lindbergh Families,
In an effort to help us prepare for any contingencies regarding the Coronavirus, please take a moment to complete the following survey regarding your access to technology at home. This is a school wide survey so we are asking that families with multiple students enrolled only provide the name of their oldest child on this survey. These results are confidential to the school and will be shared with the necessary classroom and resource teachers and administrators only. Please complete this survey as early as possible.
