What We Did This Week
We visited art, gym and music.
ELA (English Language Arts):
We focused on letters Cc and Gg this week.We are working on answering questions about our read aloud stories including questions about the characters, setting, problem, solution and discussing the roles of an illustrator and author.
We rotated through Daily 5 and students met with me in small literacy groups. Students are beginning to bring home practice bags (be on the look out).
Writing:
We continue to write and draw in our journals remembering that a good story includes a character and setting. We are also working on adding details to our pictures. Students are taking turns sharing their stories on the classroom whiteboard.
Math:
Math lessons included counting on, the concept of zero, working with numbers 0-5, and attributes of two related objects. We also are starting to form numerals 1-10.
Science:
We discussed in detail how a Pumpkin grows (to prepare for our field trip).
Social Studies:
We worked on what our bodies look like when we are showing good listening skills. We introduced “self talk” (a method for helping us keep our attention).
Watch the weather for our field trip Monday. Please dress for the weather. Parent chaperones are asked to meet outside the classroom door at 9:00 for group assignments. Remember parents are driving separate from the bus. Please remember to pack a disposable bag lunch and mark that lunch bag with your student’s name. The bus will leave approx. 9:15 a.m. and we will need to be back to school by 2:30 p.m. Once returning to school you can sign your student out early or leave them for regular dismissal time.
We will be having a classroom Halloween Party on Thursday, October 31st. Kindergarten and Y5 students are allowed to wear their costume to school. We will parade the hallway (parents are welcome to stay and watch the parade at school entry time) and then we will have a short classroom party afterwards. Costumes get taken off after the party and put in student’s backpacks.
Have a great weekend!
