News and Information:
3-13-20 Half-day of school
3-18-20 Late Start
What We Did This Week:
ELA:
Our new sight word is “see”
We worked in small groups. Each student should have some emergent readers in their reading bag to practice reading (with our new words). When students are reading please remind them to use their “reading finger”, and use the picture to help them decode unknown words. We are also learning to check the beginning sound of an unknown word.
Students should also have a “ring of words” in their reading bag. We will add to this as they learn new words.
Reading the alphabet chart and “bouncing” on the letter sounds is also good daily practice.
We have introduced last names as daily practice in class. You can practice this at home too!
Writing:
We wrote in our journals using the sentence stem, “I can see a……”
Math:
We introduced counting by 5’s.
Students are using a number bond as a tool to explore addition. This is a tool used in the Eureka Math program that your student will use more in Kindergarten.
We used the number bond to see how many ways we can brake the numbers 5,6,7, and 8 apart.
Science:
We continue to study the weather.
We will begin March is Reading month on Monday. A calendar of themes and activities will come home Monday.
We have many community members coming to read to the students. You are invited to come read to the class as well. The end of the school day works best, about 3:15 p.m. – any day except Wednesdays. Please email me a date that may work for you.
Have a good weekend!
