What We Did This Week:
We visited art, gym and music.
ELA (English Language Arts):
We focused on letters Zz and Vv this week.We are working on answering questions about our read aloud stories including questions about the characters, setting, problem, solution and discussing the roles of an illustrator and author. We studied syllables of words (parts) and isolating the first sound of a word. We are also discussing basic concepts about print and studying the difference between a letter and a word.
We rotated through Daily 5 and students met with me in small literacy groups. Students are beginning to bring home practice bags (please keep them in the student’s backpack).
Writing:
We continue to write and draw in our journals remembering that a good story includes a character and setting. We are also working on adding details to our pictures. Students are taking turns sharing their stories on the classroom whiteboard.
Math:
Math lessons included counting on, the concept of zero, working with numbers 0-5, and attributes of two related objects. We also are starting to form numerals 1-10. We also worked with pattern blocks and geo-blocks to build and extend simple patterns.
A special thank you for all of the organization, donations, volunteer work, candy treats and awesome costumes that made Halloween a great day! The students had a great time! I hope everyone stayed warm!
