10-31-19 Classroom Halloween Party (Kindergarten and Y5 costume parade through the school hallways at 8:45. Classroom party 9-10:00).

What We Did This Week:

We visited art, gym and music.

ELA (English Language Arts):

We focused on letters Ee and Pp this week.We are working on answering questions about our read aloud stories including questions about the characters, setting, problem, solution and discussing the roles of an illustrator and author. We studied syllables of words (parts) and isolating the first sound of a word.

We also explored “informational” text. And discussed what fiction and non fiction stories are.

We rotated through Daily 5 and students met with me in small literacy groups. Students are beginning to bring home practice bags (be on the look out).

Writing:

We continue to write and draw in our journals remembering that a good story includes a character and setting. We are also working on adding details to our pictures. Students are taking turns sharing their stories on the classroom whiteboard.

Math:

Math lessons included counting on, the concept of zero, working with numbers 0-5, and attributes of two related objects. We also are starting to form numerals 1-10. We also worked with pattern blocks and geo-blocks to build and extend simple patterns.

Science:

We continue to discuss fall and the changes we are observing in the season. We also watched a Mystery Science episode about our skulls (Halloween themed).

Social Studies/Second Steps Program

We continue to use our “attentiscopes” and self-talk to help us focus. We also are remembering what our bodies look like when we are good listeners. This week we talked about observing our friends face and responding to their emotions appropriately.

We will be having a classroom Halloween Party on Thursday, October 31st. Kindergarten and Y5 students are allowed to wear their costume to school. We will parade the hallway (parents are welcome to stay and watch the parade at school entry time) and then we will have a short classroom party afterwards. Costumes get taken off after the party and put in student’s backpacks.

Have a good weekend!
