What We Did This Week
ELA:
We focused on letters Aa and Dd this week in addition to rhyming words and initial sounds. We are working on answering questions about our read aloud stories including questions about the characters, setting, problem, solution and discussing the roles of an illustrator and author.
We are beginning to rotate through Daily 5 components, Read to Self and Word Work. The students met with me in small literacy groups.
Writing:
We are responding to narratives read in class with our “writing” (drawing). We are working on how to draw detailed pictures. We made sure our writing had character and a setting.
Math:
Math lessons included counting on, the concept of zero, working with numbers 0-5, and attributes of two related objects. We also are starting to form numerals 1-10.
Science:
We continue to talk about what a scientist is and what they do (observe, record, experiment, etc.) We watched a Mystery Science Lesson and went on a walk to “OBSERVE” the signs of Fall.
Social Studies:
We learned about good listening this week. What our eyes do, our ears do, how our mouth is and what our body looks like when somebody is speaking.
The students enjoyed interacting with each other during Free Choice time.
We visited art, gym and music.
The students also had their hearing screened by the county.
