  • We read stories about Kindergarten, Fall and books with rhyming words.
  • We introduced our first poem for our poem books, “The Apple Tree”
  • We are building our “Read to Self” stamina.  We talked about ways to read a book when we don’t know the words yet.
  • We wrote in our journals during Writer’s Workshop.  Students are being encouraged to add lots of detail to their drawings.

Math:

  • We had 4 lessons this week on sorting and classifying.  In the green math homework book that was sent home feel free to practice the pages that follow lessons 1-4.  These pages DO NOT NEED TO BE TURNED IN.

Leader in Me/ Social Studies:

  • We continue to talk about being proactive.

Science:

  • We will begin Science next week with “What it means to be a Scientist”

We visited Gym, Art, Music and Media

We played during Free Choice Time

We took our first NWEA assessment test on the chrome books.  This was a reading assessment.  We will take the math assessment next week.  These scores will be shared at fall conferences.  Ask your student about using the touch screen computers!!

And most importantly we survived the heat!

  • Alphabet Books were due today (Letter M and Letter S page).  I will return them on Monday.  If you forgot don’t worry.  We can catch up next week.  Alphabet Books will come home every Monday and should be returned every Friday in the red folder.  On Monday I will share the letters of the week to work on.
  • Nightly Literacy Homework continues for the month.  Keep these graphs (with the balls) at home.  That way they don’t get lost coming to and from school.  These will not be turned in until the end of the month.
  • Reading Bags should come to school every day and be left in the backpack.  I know there is not much in them now but sight words and reading books are coming soon.

**Please remember to pack an afternoon snack separate from the lunch box.

Have a great weekend!
