Introduction to Online Learning

Dear Parents,

The First Grade Team is happy to announce that for the next three weeks we will be providing online learning assignments for your child to complete at home. Please keep reading and let me know if you would like to volunteer!

What will the assignments look like?

On Monday of each week we will post the week’s assignments including Spelling, Reading, Writing and Math. Spelling and Writing will be done at home and be brought to school when we meet again on April 13th. Reading and Math will be done online and we will be able to view your child’s scores on the computer. As always all login information will be saved at the top of the Learning Links page.

I will also post occasionally throughout the week to share science and social studies links, clarify questions as needed, and post cute pictures of me and my cat hanging out at home!

Communication

This blog will be my primary means of communication with parents. I am also hoping for a few parent volunteers who have connections with other parents that could help share information about assignments and school updates as needed. For example sharing info via text or parent facebook group.

If you have any questions about the assignments, need help accessing something, or want to talk about my cat, please contact me via email at roec@dearbornschools.org.

Raz Kids – Read at Home

Raz Kids – Read at Home

We have a new free resource for reading at home! Raz Kids is a leveled reading program purchased by River Oaks for our students to use at school and at home. To get started, click on the link Raz Kids then have your child follow the steps below:
1. Enter my teacher username croe14.
2. Choose your name.
3. Choose our class password picture: the apple.

Your child should first choose books from their “reading room” or “level up” hatch — these books will be at their level. They should listen to the book, read the book on their own and then complete the book quiz. When they have read and completed the quizzes for all of the books at their current level, they will “level up.” I will continue to monitor their reading in class and may change their level to support their reading growth.

There are also search icons at the top of the reading room page. I recommend using these to explore topics your child is interested in, but keep in mind that the books may be easier or harder than your child’s current level– so they may need help.

Our read at home goal is for each student to complete two books, at their level, each day on Raz Kids.

If you have any questions please email me at roec@dearbornschools.org.
There are also additional reading and math resources on the links page on this blog.
