Mystery Box

Mystery Box

We are starting a new routine called Mystery Box to help reinforce correct sentence formation and questions vs comments (and it’s fun!) It is an adaptation of the classic, Show and Tell. Each night one child will take home the mystery box and place a secret item inside. They will write down three clues to help the class guess the object and bring them to class the next day. Then the class will guess the object, ask questions and share comments. Keep your eyes peeled for the Mystery Box!

Reminder!

Students,

Our class goal for Raz Kids is to read 2 books each night and take the accompanying quizzes. You can also use your Raz Kids books or books from your book bag to complete one square on the characters reading log sent home today.

If you have sight word flash cards or an alphabet chart remember to practice those too! Good readers practice letter sounds and sight words because you need to know them to be able to read good books!

See you tomorrow,
Ms. Roe

Care Packages for the Homeless

Help the Homeless

In the spirit of giving back this November River Oaks School wants to help the homeless in our area. How we want to do this is by creating care packages filled with everyday essentials.

We can’t do it without your HELP! We are asking each grade to bring in items to complete our Care Packages:

Kindergarten: Adult Socks
1st Grade: Travel Size Tissues
2nd Grade: Travel Size Toothpaste & Toothbrush
3rd Grade: Adult Gloves
4th Grade: Travel Size Deodorant
5TH Grade: 8oz Water & Granola bars

Each grade with the most donations by November 22nd, 2019 will win a Pizza Party provided by the PTA. Please help us reach our goal of 200 bags!

Raz Kids – Read at Home

Raz Kids – Read at Home

We have a new free resource for reading at home! Raz Kids is a leveled reading program purchased by River Oaks for our students to use at school and at home. To get started, click on the link Raz Kids then have your child follow the steps below:
1. Enter my teacher username croe14.
2. Choose your name.
3. Choose our class password picture: the apple.

Your child should first choose books from their “reading room” or “level up” hatch — these books will be at their level. They should listen to the book, read the book on their own and then complete the book quiz. When they have read and completed the quizzes for all of the books at their current level, they will “level up.” I will continue to monitor their reading in class and may change their level to support their reading growth.

There are also search icons at the top of the reading room page. I recommend using these to explore topics your child is interested in, but keep in mind that the books may be easier or harder than your child’s current level– so they may need help.

Our read at home goal is for each student to complete two books, at their level, each day on Raz Kids.

If you have any questions please email me at roec@dearbornschools.org.
There are also additional reading and math resources on the links page on this blog.
