2020-2021 Back to School Plans
Good Morning,
The District Board has approved our back to school plan and parents have two main options they can consider:
- Register your child for the 100% online only plan for the year
- Keep your child enrolled in their current school and follow the return to learn plan put out by the district.
All students will begin the year completely online on August 31. However, learning labs will be available for students to receive extra support if they need it. The school board is committed to remaining flexible this year and putting the safety of our students first. They will reevaluate the possibility of safely returning to in-person classes on a monthly basis.
Mr. Martin will be at school to answer questions today, Wednesday August 12, from 9am – 2 pm to answer any questions you have about Dearborn Virtual Learning.
See the River Oak Blog post below and please feel free to contact me or Mr. Martin if you have questions.
Online Summer School Opportunity
Online Summer School begins Monday, August 3rd.
Dear Parents,
I hope summer break has given you a nice vacation from the chaotic end of the school year. River Oaks is planning to begin online summer school next week, Monday, August 3rd. I will be meeting with small groups of students (3-5 children) in a video call. I plan on providing reading instruction for about 1 hour, 4 times a week, for 3 weeks. If you are interested in online summer school to help prepare your child for the coming school year, please email me by tomorrow evening. I will be putting together a list of families for the office staff to contact.
Finally, I am sorry I just realized that my final, scheduled blog posts never published to the blog page! I really am not sure what happened.
Stay Safe,
Ms. Roe
Why Complete the Census?
Dear Parents,
Every year, billions of dollars in federal funding go to hospitals, fire departments, schools, roads, and other resources based on census data.
This is especially critical now as our district faces a budget shortfall and teacher layoffs at a time when we should be reducing class sizes for health and safety during the pandemic. For a better future of our city, schools, and students, please click on the link now and fill out the census. It only takes a few minutes from your time to make a difference.
Complete the Census application here:
Sincerely,
Ms. Roe
School Reopening Parent Survey
Please take a few minutes to complete the survey below. The district will take parent opinion into account while following all CDC and State guidelines.

End of the Year Updates
- No progress reports will be sent out today. I am working to complete report cards this week.
- Report cards will be mailed to the addresses on file with the school.
- Please take a few minutes to complete the School Reopening Survey. Parent responses in conjunction with CDC guidelines and State guidelines will shape how our district plans to reopen schools.
- FREE School meals will be available through the summer break. School Meals Info
- Families should keep borrowed chromebooks for the summer to engage in summer learning. Chromebook post
- I am creating a list of resources you can use to keep your child learning over the summer and will it post later this week.
School Lunches Available Through Summer Break
Dearborn will extend FREE school lunches through the summer vacation. Pick up will change to distributing seven breakfasts and seven lunches once a week on WEDNESDAYS from 10 a.m. to noon. An adult may pick up food for any child that lives in the home, they do not need to attend that school. Click the link below to see the press release below for more information and, as always, email me with any questions.
Keep Chromebooks for Summer Learning!
Students may keep the chromebooks they checked out to continue summer learning. I will be creating a document of suggestions for activities to keep your child learning over the summer.
We still have a long time before next school year! Don’t let your child loose learning over the summer break!
