Thanks to support from DENSO, the Michigan Science Center will open its doors free of charge on November 10 as part of International Science Center and Science Museum Day, an opportunity to celebrate how science centers and museums connect science and society, engage diverse members of their communities, and partner to tackle challenges.

MiSci will be open noon – 5 p.m. on November 10. Free general admission includes access to 250+ hands-on exhibits, live shows, Spark!Lab from the Smithsonian, Kids Town, STEM Playground and more. Planetarium and Engineering Theater tickets will be available for purchase at the box office.

Halloween Notes

River Oaks Halloween Information

On Thursday, October 31st, students will be allowed to bring costumes to school.  Students will not be able to wear their costumes during the morning, but may put them on in the afternoon prior to our Halloween Parade at 2:15 PM.  Weather permitting, we will walk around the neighborhood of the school during the parade and then have time for class parties.  Parents are welcome to participate in the parade around the neighborhood, but must check into the office first in order to obtain a visitor’s pass. If it rains the parade will be around the inside of the school. Following the parade we will have a class party. If you would like to donate nut free treats or money for pizza please email me at roec@dearbornschools.org.

Notes about costumes:

PLEASE DO NOT WEAR COSTUMES TO SCHOOL. Instead, bring your labeled costume in a bag, with your student’s name on it.  Students will be able to change into their costumes in the afternoon. Students may NOT dress up as anything that contains, bloody looking, or would be considered scary for younger students who may be frightened by these costumes. Weapons or toys that resemble weapons are NOT permitted.

Wednesday, Oct. 2nd, is statewide Count Day for Michigan public schools. Count Day is when public schools tally the number of students attending their schools. Count information is critical to districts because each student translates into state funding.
