Introduction to Online Learning

Dear Parents,

The First Grade Team is happy to announce that for the next three weeks we will be providing online learning assignments for your child to complete at home. Please keep reading and let me know if you would like to volunteer!

What will the assignments look like?

On Monday of each week we will post the week’s assignments including Spelling, Reading, Writing and Math. Spelling and Writing will be done at home and be brought to school when we meet again on April 13th. Reading and Math will be done online and we will be able to view your child’s scores on the computer. As always all login information will be saved at the top of the Learning Links page.

I will also post occasionally throughout the week to share science and social studies links, clarify questions as needed, and post cute pictures of me and my cat hanging out at home!

Communication

This blog will be my primary means of communication with parents. I am also hoping for a few parent volunteers who have connections with other parents that could help share information about assignments and school updates as needed. For example sharing info via text or parent facebook group.

If you have any questions about the assignments, need help accessing something, or want to talk about my cat, please contact me via email at roec@dearbornschools.org.

Child Care Concerns

Good Morning First Grade Families,

We’ve certainly all had a lot to think about overnight. The closure of schools in the state puts a lot of pressure on families with children too young to stay home alone. If you are concerned about childcare for the coming weeks and you are unable to work from home, you may want to consider teaming up with one or two other parents in our class or in your neighborhood to share childcare responsibilities a few days a week.

It’s important to note that groups of children should stay small and consistent to get the benefit of the school closures. I will not be planning any childcare arrangements but, if you are interested in giving your email to other interested parents, you can email me at roec@dearbornschools.org.

I will not have time to prepare paper copies of work, but I will post additional information to the blog. Please also regularly check dearbornschools.org for updates. We will be closed until April 13th.
