This Week’s Assignments 3/23

Assignment Updates:

Spelling:

This week we have a new spelling pattern, the consonant digraph CK. Digraph is the word we use to describe two letters that represent only one sound. Other examples of digraphs are th, ch, and ph.

Spelling words: neck, deck, check, rack, back, sick, pick, brick, stick, clock

Rule: CK is used to represent the /k/ sound. It is only used after a single vowel which says its short sound.

Math:

Please do lessons 6-10 on Zearn.org this week. If your child finishes, please have them work on IXL math instead of moving on.

Writing:

One informational writing piece.

Reading:

Read and take at least 10 book quizzes on Raz Kids this week.

As a reminder, you can find descriptions of each of this weeks assignments under the Assignments tab in the menu.

Friday Updates

I have heard back from almost every parent and most students are caught up on their work. Great job! If your child is a little bit behind on Zearn assignments, they can double up and do two a day until they catch up. I usually assign two per day at school when there will be a substitute, so they are used to completing two.

If your child has already completed M4L5 (Module 4 Lesson 5) please do not allow them to move more than one or two lessons ahead. The first grade team has designed the Zearn lessons as a review before we get back to school; it is best for our class that we stay on the same track for these lessons.

If your child is done with the Zearn lessons and you would like to extend their learning, have them work on IXL math. I have highlighted first grade math tasks that will help them review and prepare for our future lessons. If they complete them all, they can work on any material that IXL suggests.

The following work was assigned this week:
– Complete 5 lessons on Zearn
– Complete 10 quizzes on Raz Kids
– Write one informational writing piece
– Practice the spelling words

If your child is behind, there is no need to stress about it! We are all dealing with a lot right now and this is first grade. It is absolutely fine for your child to work toward completing their assignments in a way that works for your family. Please let me know if you have any questions or problems. My assistant and I are here to help!
