Algebra 2 Week 7 Distance Learning

I hope you’re all doing well! Our Khan Academy assignments this week are focused around solving square root functions and the idea of extraneous solutions. As usual this assignment is due by Friday morning at 10 am, and I still encourage you to take a few notes as you watch the videos to make the exercises less stressful. Remember that you need to make sure you have your assignments done in order to receive credit for the semester!

Please don’t forget to check in every week. The video check ins are very easy to find if you log into our class iLearn page. If you have questions it’s great to come to one of the iLearn video check ins with these questions! Start your work early in the week so that we can answer your questions before everything is due Friday morning.

Lastly don’t forget to fill out this google form if you’re submitting late work or re-doing something from a previous week. I will not see that you’re submitting late work if you don’t fill out this form: https://forms.gle/hYWPAc5TCegQPb4cA

If you have any questions/concerns or something that you want me and Moleski to know about please do not hesitate to contact one of us!

Have a great rest of your weekend. I’ll see you during video check in/office hours.

Algebra 2 Week 6 Distance Learning

I hope you’re all doing well! This week we’re again completing assignments in Khan Academy, specifically focused around the graphs of polynomial functions. As usual this assignment is due by Friday morning at 10 am, and I still encourage you to take a few notes as you watch the videos to make the exercises less stressful.

The Honors level extension this week is a worksheet that you can find attached on iLearn. Please download the worksheet there and submit it to through iLearn. Remember, this extension activity is completely optional.

Please don’t forget to check in every week. The video check ins are very easy to find if you log into our class iLearn page. If you have questions it’s great to come to one of the iLearn video check ins with these questions! Start your work early in the week so that we can answer your questions before everything is due Friday morning. Since Monday is Memorial Day there will not be any video calls/checkins for hours 1 – 3. Please make sure you log in on Wednesday if you’re in 1st, 2nd or 3rd Hour.

Lastly don’t forget to fill out this google form if you’re submitting late work or re-doing something from a previous week. I will not see that you’re submitting late work if you don’t fill out this form: https://forms.gle/hYWPAc5TCegQPb4cA

Algebra 2 Week 5 Distance Learning

I hope that you’re all doing well! I’d like to thank those of you who took advantage of the lighter workload last week to get caught up on any missing Khan Assignments from weeks 1-3 and thank those of you who have been keeping on top of everything as much as possible during these past few interesting weeks!

This week we will be focusing on different aspects of factoring polynomials. Just as in the past, your required assignment is in Khan Academy in the form of some brief videos and exercises. Like I’ve stated before I strongly suggest you take a few notes while watching the videos, try the problems they’re demonstrating on your own, and then try the exercises. Break these videos and exercises up over a couple days worth of work. It’ll make your assignments easier and less stressful.

The Honors Level Extension for the week is on enVision (remember that?!) and covers something called “completing the square”. If you don’t remember how to access enVision let me know. Remember that this extension assignment is optional!

It’s likely I will not see that you’re submitting late work if you don’t fill out this form: https://forms.gle/hYWPAc5TCegQPb4cA

If you have any questions/concerns or something that you want me and Moleski to know about please do not hesitate to contact one of us!

Have a great rest of your weekend. I’ll see you during the next video check in/office hours.

Algebra 2 Week 4 Distance Learning (May 10-May 15)

I hope you’re all doing well!

*This week we’re going to do things a little differently… Some of you still have work to catch up on from the past three weeks. Some of you more than others. Because of this there will be no new assignments in Khan Academy. If you do not have EVERY VIDEO viewed and ALL EXERCISES complete, you have this week to catch up on them. If you are all caught up (there are a few of you in each class) great job, you don’t have to access Khan Academy this week!

*There is one new REQUIRED ASSIGNMENT this week that can be found on DESMOS by following this link:

1st Hour: https://student.desmos.com?prepopulateCode=jyz3sm
2nd Hour: https://student.desmos.com?prepopulateCode=curcpa
3rd Hour: https://student.desmos.com?prepopulateCode=e8darj
5th Hour: https://student.desmos.com?prepopulateCode=6jkdar

This assignment is REQUIRED FOR ALL STUDENTS. That means even if you’re caught up on Khan you need to do this very brief assignment. That means if you’re not all caught up on Khan you need to do this very brief assignment after getting caught up. This assignment is intended to be one more way to tie together all of the pieces of function transformations and you answer all of the questions right on Desmos.

*You might be wondering how to know if you’re caught up on Khan. When you log in and go to your assignments page everything should be marked complete. Again, please use this week to get yourselves caught up, in addition to completing the other brief assignment.

* Please don’t forget that we are available for help and hold Check-Ins and Office Hours each week to answer questions and work through problems with you. Please start your assignments early in the week so that when you encounter problems we can have a reasonable amount of time to discuss your questions. Waiting until the night before the assignments are due is not productive and can be frustrating for you when you realize I’m asleep by 10 pm and won’t respond to your email until the morning.

Let us know if you have any questions!

Week 3 Distance Learning

Algebra 2 Distance Learning Week 3:

*Thank you to those of you who’ve accessed our weekly check-in and office hours via Big Blue Button on iLearn. If you didn’t join last week please see the video posted to the Google Classroom page with directions of how to access the video calls. The times are the same as were posted during Week 1.

*This week’s Khan Academy work finishes our look at transformations. The goal of this week’s videos and assignments are to tie everything together that we looked at in Weeks 1 & 2 and apply these transformations to specific function families. Remember that we are able to view how long (or how little) you spend on each aspect of Khan Academy… Keep this in mind as you’re watching the videos and completing exercises

*Remember that this is all review from 1st semester and is not intended to stress you out! If you’re feeling lost after watching the videos stop in to the office hours on iLearn, email us your questions, etc. I’d like to recommend that you watch the first batch of videos, take a few notes, then complete the exercises that follows. After you do that, take a break and come back to it later. Don’t do it all in one sitting and overwhelm yourself!

*Lastly, we are very happy to accept late work or allow you to redo your assignments without penalty. HOWEVER if you submit late work or redo something after the due date I will likely not see it in my report. If you’re submitting late work you need to complete the following Google Form that will notify me of what to go back and grade for you: https://forms.gle/JPZ43y1qNFhEKr4F6

Get started on some work early so you can ask questions Monday/Tuesday if you have them!

Week 2 Distance Learning

Algebra 2 Distance Learning Week 2:

*You may have heard that the district is transitioning away from using Google Meets/Hangouts for our weekly check-in and office hours. We’ll be using something on iLearn Called “Big Blue Button”. I’ve created an iLearn page specifically for this new virtual meeting requirement and have enrolled you all in the course. If you are not automatically enrolled use the code “hwzxed” to enroll yourselves and I will add you to the appropriate class hour. I will continue to post general announcements/updates to our Google Classroom pages, but we will be using iLearn for our weekly virtual check ins/office hours and as a checklist for the assignments that you need to complete each week.

* This week our work will focus around scaling functions (stretching & compressing) vertically and horizontally. There are five videos to view and 4 sets of exercises. Please make sure that you are signed into your Khan Academy account when you complete them. The easiest way to do this is to go to http://www.khanacademy.org, click on “sign in” and then choose “Continue with Google”.

* In addition to the Khan exercises there is an OPTIONAL extension activity utilizing Desmos to determine the transformations occurring to a quadratic function and what function would represent these transformations. You can see more info about this on iLearn. Please remember that this is OPTIONAL.

* If you’re having any difficulties throughout the week, feeling overwhelmed, nervous about things, bored, shoot me a message! We have two options during the week scheduled for office hours and can be semi-flexible about other times in some cases. Waiting until the night before everything is due and then emailing me is not the best way to go about letting me know you’re struggling. Please begin assignments today so that when you check into our Big Blue Button Office Hours on Monday and Tuesday we can address your questions early!

Please let me know if you have any questions/concerns!

4/13 Algebra 2 Update

Good morning and “welcome back” from Spring Break! We hope that you were able to relax as much as possible without having to think too much about online assignments, and that you/your families are all doing well and staying safe!

If you haven’t completed any of the enVision assignments from the three weeks prior to spring break, please log in and do so. They remain open and even though they are in the “past due” section of your assignments tab they have previously been recorded as “complete”, “incomplete” or “missing” in MiStar, so completing them late does not have a negative impact on you. I will be running reports and updating MiStar throughout the day.

As of this morning the district plan for the remainder of the school year is not quite ready. With that being said I’ll be updating you daily with what we’ll be working on this week. For today, we need you to complete the following survey about enVision: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe9OcJRijoZ3MsvMqPQlvLvz6veDgDis0EYNFdBi_vNYlZD7w/viewform
You may remember at the end of the first semester we completed a similar survey about Agile Mind. We (math teachers) are meeting virtually this week to discuss how enVision has worked for us both in the classroom and remotely. Your feedback is vital information to help make the decision between adopting Agile Mind or enVision as our resource for the future. Please be honest but professional in your feedback.

As always, if you need anything please reach out to myself or Mr. Moleski!

Don’t forget to complete this survey today: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe9OcJRijoZ3MsvMqPQlvLvz6veDgDis0EYNFdBi_vNYlZD7w/viewform
