Battle of the Socks…. It’s on!

Battle of the Socks…. It’s on!

So, each year I try to have some sort of “Battle” with my students to help others in need.

This year we talked about the need for SOCKS.  We all hear about donating gloves and hats in the winter time, but how about peoples feet?  They get cold too! Think about it, we use our feet everyday, they take us places, right?

My challenge to my students is to donate as many NEW pairs of socks for homeless which I will take to a local shelter.  The battle will go for one week. Ending on Thursday, 12/21.

Let’s help others out, by giving the gift of warm feet.

Long Division

We have started Lesson 8 on LONG DIVISION.  Students are learning two different ways to show their work (partial quotient and division algorithm).  Calculators are not allowed on this Lesson.  Students MUST show their work.  We will wrap it up this week and a packet with IXL will be started next week.

Our classroom needs some Kleenex and Hand sanitizing wipes or baby wipes to clean hands.  If everyone donates a couple, it’ll get us through the cold season.

Quick Quiz sometime next week and vacation December 24-January 4, 2019.

We come back on January 7, 2019.

Read by Third Grade

From the District:
Based on Public Law 306 (October 2016), third grade students who are more than a year below grade level on the state ELA assessment are under consideration for retention in third grade.  Dearborn Public Schools staff in elementary schools have been systematically planning to ensure that teachers have the training to teach reading effectively and that students receive small group instruction based on their needs.  The current year second graders are the first group to potentially be impacted by the legislation.
You are invited to join the district task force to strengthen the planning process and to ensure that the community is informed and engaged in the success of every student.
If you would like to participate, please complete the survey.

(Dividing with) Fractions!

We are working on multiplying and dividing fractions. We worked on Lesson 7, pages 58-59 in the Instruction Book and (Due Tomorrow) page 359 (Dividing Fractions in the Practice and Problem Solving book).

We will work through this section and most likely finish by the end of the week with some practice coming home on Friday.
