Thank you so much for being so understanding and flexible this week parents! I have been in and out of the building this week due to an upper respiratory infection and our class has been so kind and patient this week. I do apologize for the timing in regards to our usual weekly update. Without further adieu here are some things that we have been working on this week.
Reading: Continuing Characters, character traits, and how illustrations help us understand characters and mood.
Every child has a reading group. They may read those books and add them to their reading logs. Remember children should be reading 20 min. a night!

Writing: Beginning to brainstorm more Narrative Writing Topics.
Social Studies: Location (relative and absolute), the bodies of Water in Michigan, and the other landforms in Michigan
Science:
We continued our study of forces this week, this time by considering some of the forces involved in designing a bridge (as an activity your child designed and tested their own bridge made of paper).
One fun thing you can do to support this week’s learning is sit down together with your child and enjoy browsing through some of the world’s most intriguing and extraordinary bridges (see link). Math: Modeling division as the unknown factor of multiplication using arrays and tape diagrams, interpreting the quotient of division problems using units of 2-3.

Also, I’ve had a few questions regarding Sprints and Fluency Patterns. These are timed they do one then they do the other. Sometimes in the same day sometimes one one day and one the next. They are NOT graded. They are to make your child feel successful that they are beating their score. Please do not be upset that your child hasn’t gotten through them all. This is a new program but I will mention that many students are not keeping up with the homework. I have talked to them and will be sending homework not turned in throughout the week. Today they should have brought home Lesson 13.
Leader in Me: Wednesday our class will be talking about producing quality work and being responsible. When the return home ask them “How do you know when you have produced quality work?”
