Student Pick Up/Drop Off- Announcement

Dear Parents,

As the school year is coming to an end, we wanted to take this time to thank you for all of your continued support and understanding.  None of what we have accomplished could have been possible without the strong partnership we have as a community.

Our plan this week is to have a day for material pick-up and drop-off.  The day is currently planned for Thursday, June 4th in the afternoon.  In order to maximize safety, we have assigned timings based on your child’s last name.  If your child’s last name begins with the letter A-M, the pick-up/drop-off time will be from 12:00-1:30pm.  If your child’s last name begins with the letter N-Z, the pick-up/drop-off time will be from 1:30-3:00pm.

We ask that students do not accompany adults and that we practice safety precautions at all times.  Please plan on coming with a mask on, practice social distancing and come in to pick up items and leave immediately.  We greatly appreciate your support in keeping everyone safe and healthy.

Below are a few important pieces of information to be aware of:

  • Pick-up/Drop-off will occur on the South Playground (near Myrte).
  • There will be an area marked for each classroom teacher.  Student materials have been placed in brown paper bags and extra material in a plastic bag ready for pick up with your child’s name.  There will also be a basket with the teacher’s name there for you to drop off any classroom books/materials.  These items should be placed in a bag, clearly marked with your child’s name.  Please remember, some students have lots of items, so come prepared.
  • In the lot, there will also be bins for you to drop-off:
    • library books
    • musical instruments
    • safety belts
    • service squad pins

Please clearly mark your child’s name on these items by either placing them in a bag or using a piece of masking tape.

  • There will also be a table to pick up your child’s medicine, anything left will be disposed of according to policy.
  • If you have been collecting pop tabs, we will also have the box outside to collect those pop-tabs.
  • Yearbooks and Spring Pictures have come in, there will be a table set up for those.  5th graders will get their yearbook in their promotion bags.

Since this will all occur outside, we are hoping that the weather cooperates.  If things change, we will let you know.

Have a wonderful day!

Ms. Tiba

Week at a Glance- 5/31

Happy Sunday Parents,

I hope that you are taking advantage of this GORGEOUS Sunday afternoon! I do apologize in advance, since this week at a glance post is relatively long. Here are some of the announcements and upcoming events for this week.

  • This is the last week of actual assignments for the third grade school year! Yay! Since this is the case, the assignments that are posted this week will all be due by Sunday. Sunday will be the last day to turn in any assignments for this school year.
  • I have sent out missing homework folders today to your email. Please make sure to review this email to see what your child is missing.
  • Please take a look at the week-at-a-glance below. There are some minor changes with the virtual meeting schedule.

  • For our virtual meetings this week, we will be doing two amazing class events! On Wednesday we will be doing a class talent show. If your child is interested in performing or sharing their talent, please fill out this Google Form.

https://forms.gle/BuSaxCZD9fdebrCE9

  • On Friday, we will be doing a Boys VS Girls Scavenger hunt. This will require boys logging in two separate times. More details on this to come later in the week. Make sure to look at the week at a glance for more details about times.
  • Since we want to make sure to celebrate the end of the school year, we have some really great events planned over the course of the next two weeks. Please look at this schedule for some of the events we have planned!

  • This week we will have a student-belonging pick up day at the school. Mrs. Tiba has yet to announce a date (she wanted to wait for weather predictions). Once I hear from Ms. Tiba- I will post the date and times that students can come pick up their belongings. When I share with you the date, I will also share with you a checklist for parents on which items need to be returned and those to keep. There will be a spot to return any classroom or Lindbergh items on the pick-up day.

  • Please see the below list for Library Books that your child may have at home. These are the books that are still checked out and will be expected to be returned back to school. If your child left these books in their book box at school, I have already collected them. For any questions regarding this, please reach out to Mrs. Ackerman.
  • On Tuesday, June 9th, I would like to stop by each of your homes to drop off a summer gift bag to your children and to wish them a Happy Summer! Social distancing and safely of course! Please let me know, if you prefer a certain time of day for this, as I will do my best to accommodate. If the home address in M-star is different, please send me the correct one.

Thank you for being so patient with this long blog post. Please make sure to stay tuned to this blog this week, since there will be more information coming out this week. As always, feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns!

Tremendous Thursday

I have also uploaded both reading and math assignments into Google Classroom for today. Make sure to check them out.

Later this afternoon, I plan on posting another read-aloud chapter of Matilda. So stay tuned!

Terrific Tuesday

Happy Tuesday!

I hope that you are out enjoying this warm sunny weather and have started to get back into the normal routine of things. Here are a couple of updates and reminders!

-Reading and Math lessons will be posted on Tuesday and Thursday this week only and Tuesday’s lessons are available now on Google Classroom.

-This week there were many changes in our week at a glance, please see the previous post on the changes.

-There will be a whole group iLearn virtual meeting tomorrow at 11:00am. We will go over expectations for presenting their animal reports and go over other assignments.

– As previously mentioned, student’s will be presenting their animal report projects this week. The students were split up into two groups. For their presentation, your child is only required to attend the session that their name is under. For example, if my child is in Group B they will only attend Friday’s meeting not Thursday since their name is scheduled for Friday. To find out what day your child needs to present, please see the previous post with the schedule. If you have any questions feel free to reach out.

-Lastly, listed below is a video with our read aloud! Check it out!

Have a Great Day!

Week at a Glance- 5/25

Memorial Day 2020

Happy Memorial Day Families!

I hope that you took some time out today to remember those heroes and their families today.

Since this week is a shortened week, I have changed the way our schedule looks for this week only. The first change is that there will be no reading log assigned. While there may not be a paper reading log, I cannot tell you how important it is to still have your child read 20 minutes each night. Please continue this! I will be posting math and reading lessons on Tuesday and Thursday this week, instead of on Wednesday and Friday.

Even though there are some changes, we will still have our social studies lesson posted on Wednesday.

Please pay close attention to the schedule this week for this reason. You can find our week at a glance below:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1-4WjE5JTKUP54-w9I_06Fx_MkWCkJKU0XsxZRKix50U/edit?usp=sharing

For our weekly writing this week, I would like for you to focus on getting ready to present your animal research project. Every student will be presenting this week, either on Thursday or Friday (see the schedule below for details).

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uAQo-C0FS4rG3xBNZQV3DElRWKMToyHiVsgVO_rV6Eo/edit?usp=sharing

For this presentation, I will be looking at the slide content and grading students on their oral presentation using the presentation rubric below.

If you have any questions regarding the Animal Report project please let me know.

Thursday Updates

Happy Thursday Everyone!

I hope that this blog post finds you well on this beautiful day. I wanted to take a couple of minutes to update/remind you of a couple of things.

  1. Please see your child’s Google Classroom to see the feedback left from last Monday’s math mid-module assessment. Please make sure to go over the comments that were left. If you feel like your child needs some extra math support, please let me know. We can set up a time where I can call your child during office hours and work through their math concerns.
  2. Today we will be having an iLearn virtual meeting at 11:00am. Today’s meeting theme is “Pet Parade.” Be ready to share either your favorite stuffed animal of your pet at the end of the meeting. Make sure to only bring 1.
  3. We will have tomorrow, Friday May 22nd and Monday May 25th off due to Memorial Weekend. So no new assignments will be posted. Enjoy that time with your family!
  4. Lastly, I know that the weather is getting beautiful and summer is so close we can almost taste it but please continue submitting work. As a third grade team we have noticed a decline in assignments being turned in. These assignments are graded and will show up on your child’s report card. If we notice a student is not completing assignments, as a third grade team we will recommend them for summer school. Work hard now so that you can enjoy that summer vacay!

Thank you so much for your hard work parents and your dedication to helping your child succeed. This year has been unique to say the least, but we are almost to that finish line!

Keep up the hard work!

Upcoming Dates

NO SCHOOL May 22nd & 25th! Happy Memorial Weekend!

Have a Great Day!

Thank You!!!

I just wanted to give a big shout out to Adam, Aleksander, Carraig, Dominic, Daniyal, Evan, Grace, Jonathan, Leo, Lilly, Madilyn, Maggie, Maya and Mohamad for coming out to try our Big Blue Button Virtual Meet Session.

Overall we were able to use the Big Blue Button with minor issues! I’m still trying to learn this new platform, and hopefully the next time we will use it, it will go even smoother! Thanks for being understanding.

P.S. I think our pictures turned out great!

Virtual Class Today!

  • Don’t forget today we are having a virtual class meet up on iLearn at 11:00am. We will be doing a drawing activity, so make sure to have a blank piece of paper, a pencil, and coloring materials by your computer. Please make sure to login 5 minutes early just in case there are issues. A step by step instruction guide on how to access our virtual class meeting can be found below:

Wonderful Wednesday!

I hope you are all enjoying this beautiful Wednesday! I just was reaching out to share some reminders and announcements.

  • Math, Social Studies, and Reading assignments have all been uploaded into Google Classroom for today.
  • Tomorrow we will be having an OPTIONAL Class Meet-Up using iLearn at 11:00am. We will be doing a drawing activity, so make sure to have a blank piece of paper, a pencil, and coloring materials by your computer. Please make sure to login 5 minutes early just in case there are issues. A step by step instruction guide on how to access our virtual class meeting can be found below:

https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1xxRTa5fV7_MCApISlhOq373h7J0mexvUVBOkSi6Adkg/edit?usp=sharing

  • Just a friendly reminder to please look over your child’s assignments before they click the “turn in” button on Google Classroom. There has been some cases where students are turning in a blank piece of paper (this sometimes goes undetected since it labels the assignment as complete since it is turned in). If your child turns in a blank piece of paper, they will receive one reminder to not submit a blank assignment. If the problem happens again, then that child will receive a LP (limited progress) grade for that assignment on their report card. Thank you for being understanding in this.
  • Lastly, I just wanted to share that I will no longer except assignments that are more than two weeks late. If this becomes an issue due to unprecedented circumstances, please just let me know and we can try to accommodate you. The reason for this change is because, I have been noticing that I’m spending a lot of time trying to check in late homework from March, instead of connecting with students or building a better virtual classroom.

Thank you for your understanding and your continued support! I appreciate you.
