Third Grade Parent Meeting

Good Evening Parents,

Thank you to all of those parents who took time from their busy day to attend today’s meeting. I was so happy to see so many of our families there today. At this meeting, we were able to discuss many different key topics that will help make sure everyone is on the same page in this critical year.

If for some reason you were not able to attend, please review the Google Slides below.

https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1fEVr30cTrpldKFHzIKrz3pZT6rWLp1HOCjIoUxMgnfg/edit?usp=sharing

In addition to the Google Slides presentation, there is an exit ticket at the end of the slideshow that we would like ALL families to complete (whether you were in attendance or not). This data will be used to guide our instruction and provide support. It will also be collected to provide evidence of you receiving this crucial information.

If you attended the meeting and would like to perform the exit ticket, please see the below link.

The third grade team would like to have this exit ticket information back from you by Friday.

Once again, we would like to say thank you for attending this session. It was such an amazing turn out and I hope you all left with some key take-aways to help your student.

Math Homework for the Week of 10/14

Good Afternoon Parents,

Today in class your child practiced making tape diagrams to represent division problems where the unknown (what we didn’t know) in the math problem was either the number of groups or the size of the groups.

For tonight’s homework your child is expected to complete Module 1 Lesson 12 pg. 47-49 problems (2,4, and 5) from their Succeed book. The rest of the problems are can-do problems.

As always your child is also expected to complete 4 lessons of Zearn by the end of the week.

If you need help with tonight’s homework please see the video below:

Homework for 10/10

Good Afternoon Parents!

For today’s lesson in math we learned how to create a tape diagram to represent a division problem. We also discussed how arrays can be used as a stepping stone to create a tape diagram.

The homework tonight will be from Module 1 Lesson 11. It can be found in the Succeed book pg. 43-45. The must-dos are 1a,1b,2, and 3.

If you need extra help with this concept please see the video below:

Lastly, do not forget that tomorrow the weekly reading log is due and that we have a half-day!

Math Homework for 10/09

Good Evening Parents,

For tonight’s homework your child has brought home a pattern sheet. A pattern sheet is a tool that is used to help build your child’s math fluency. The pattern sheet is a timed activity that is completed in class. Students are required to try to complete as many problems as they can within 2 mins. At the end of 2 mins., your child circles the last problem they are able to finish.

In order to have students practice mastering these multiplication facts, as a third grade team we send the same pattern sheet for students to complete at home for extra practice. This will help students truly master these facts so that way they are prepared for the 4th-5th grade. We will be working on memorizing these facts all year.

Please feel free to check out the multiplication fact games and help page for ways to help your child practice.

Weekly Update for the Week of 10/07

Happy Monday Everyone!

First of all I just want to say thank you to all of those parents who so graciously volunteered their Friday morning to go with us to the Fire Safety House. The field trip was really informative and the students were able to learn the best way to stay safe if there is a fire. We truly could not do it without all of your help!

Last Friday a note was sent home in regards to the third grade parent meeting. Please make sure that at least one representative from your family is present at this meeting on October 14th. The meeting will start at 2:45 in the Lindbergh Auditorium and go until 3:30. If for some reason there will not be a representative from your family present, please feel free to reach out to me so that we can reschedule.

In addition to the past news, listed below is what we plan on covering this week.

Reading- Discussing how to have an effective book talk with peers, using a KWL to track knowledge within a nonfiction text, making text-to-text connections, and annotating your thinking within a book.

Writing- Discussing how to “Lift a Line” for a reader’s response, persuasive letter writing, and sharing reflective feedback with partners.

Math- Reviewing and administering the mid-module assessment and interpreting the unknown within a multiplication and division problem.

Social Studies- Discussing physical and natural characteristics that can be found within Michigan and analyzing special purpose maps regarding Michigan.

Science- Discussing push and pull within the real world. Learning how push and pull can effect our everyday life as a force. Designing a hopper experiment where we are able to see the push force and the pull force.

Leader in Me- “Transition Person” is a key concept of Habit 1: Be Proactive. A Transition Person replaces reactive, unhealthy, and harmful behaviors with proactive, helpful, and effective behaviors. A Transition Person models positive behaviors and passes on effective habits that strengthen and build others in positive ways.

Happy Friday Everyone!

For tonight’s homework your child is to complete Module 1 Lesson 10 from their Succeed book. You can find this on pg. 39-41 in their Succeed book.

Their must do problems are problems 1-3a.

If you need extra help please see the video below:
