Mystery Science Videos

Over the past couple of weeks, your child has studied forces! I did notice some students were absent for the experiments involving friction as well as magnets. Listed below you will find the video links for Mystery Science 3 and 4 involving forces. Please review these if your child did not finish the Slider experiment or magnet exploration activity. If you would like to just view these to see what we are learning, feel free to do so too!

Weekly Update for the Week of 11/25

Happy Thanksgiving Week Everyone!

This week is a rather short week. We are dreaming of turkeys and pumpkins here in room 212. Due to the shortened week, there will be NO reading log or spelling words. Use this time to work on those lead measures that our students have set for themselves.

Tomorrow we also will be having a mini-Thanksgiving celebration. Students will get to have pumpkin pie and whipped cream. They also will be allowed to bring in 1 junkie snack and a beverage to this celebration. Please do not sent your child with pop/soda as their beverage.

Listed below is the content we are working on this week:

Reading- Describing characters’ traits, motivations, and feelings and how they effect the story. We also are continuing our dive into fables and discussing morals/lessons that they teach us.

Writing- Beginning to brainstorm potential characters and morals for our own fables.

Math- Developing estimation strategies by reasoning about the weight in kilograms of a series of familiar objects to establish a mental benchmark for measuring. We also will be solving one-step word problems involving metric weights within 100 and estimate to reason about the solutions.

Science- This week’s lesson we will focus on the force of magnetism. Your child will spend time observing and discovering some of the basic properties of magnets!

One fun thing you can do together with your child is to explore this printable chart featuring wonderful household uses for magnets (see link below). This reinforces this week’s learning and also models how engineers or inventors think, something we’re doing more frequently in science class.

http://thesecretyumiverse.wonderhowto.com/how-to/11-weird-and-wonderful-uses-for-magnets-0137723/

Social Studies- Discussing the history of Thanksgiving and where it came from.

Leader in Me- Discussing Habit 3: Put First Things First. We will talk about how planning helps you control your life. Also, we will discuss how leaders always plan weekly to schedule their BIG ROCKS (most important tasks) first.

Upcoming Events

Tuesday- Thanksgiving Celebration

Wednesday- Friday- No School-Thanksgiving Break

Battle Against Hunger Food Drive

Lindbergh Flyers,

This week our school will be supporting the “Battle Against Hunger” food drive initiative.  As a school, we understand the importance of supporting those in need and giving back to the community.  To increase participation in this great cause, we will have a pajama day on Thursday, November 21.  In order to participate in pajama day, we are asking for each child to bring in at least two canned and/or boxed non-perishable food items to school for donation.

If you are interested in joining the fun, please remember:

  • Wear regular shoes-no slippers
  • Come to school in jammies that are appropriate for school and the weather

Thank you for your help!

Tonight’s Math Homework

Good Afternoon Parents,

Today in class we discussed how to solve word problems involving time. This concept was quite challenging, especially if we had to use a number line to show our math thinking. Please review this video below tonight with your child to help guide their understanding.

Their homework is from Module 2, Lesson 5. Their must do problems are 1-3. As always, students can complete problem 4 as a can-do.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me.

PTA Update

Hello Lindbergh Families,
Due to our very welcome (or unwelcome for some) snow day….and the cancelling of conferences, we are going to continue as planned with our meal schedule for conferences.  So tomorrow, just follow the dates of the signup genius and when conferences are rescheduled we will repost about the other meal.  Thank you if you have already signed up, if you haven’t but would like to bring something feel free to check it out and sign up.  Also, the teachers always welcome any treats, so don’t feel like you can’t bring it in just because it isn’t on the sign up.  As always, thank you all so very much for your time, donations and in helping keep our teachers fed on these very, very long conference days.  Don’t forget PTA meeting, Tuesday, November 19th 7pm in the cafeteria.
 Kind Regards, Danielle
