Lansing Field Trip Tomorrow!

Please don’t forget tomorrow is our Lansing Field Trip! Listed below are a couple of reminders about the big day!

Students and chaperones will be expected to check in at the Lindbergh cafeteria no later than 6:45 a.m.The bus will be leaving Lindbergh at 7:00 a.m. exactly.  Each person attending the field trip will need to bring a bag lunch with a non-glass drink.  We will be eating at the Impressions 5 Science Center.  There is no purchase of food available.  In addition to lunch, we are asking students to bring two snacks for the bus ride to Lansing and the bus ride home from Lansing.  Please keep in mind that we have peanut and nut allergies in our classrooms.  They can also bring bottled water for their snack.

For the bus ride, students can bring electronic gaming systems.  These will be left on the bus while we are on each tour. For the tours, students can bring a camera with them.  Please teach your child how to turn off the flash. We ask that if the camera is in the gaming system that an additional camera be brought.  Any gaming systems that are brought by the students are the student’s responsibility. Teachers and chaperones are not responsible for electronics.

Your child will need to dress for the weather and be prepared to do some walking outside if needed.  We are asking that students wear their Blue Ribbon Shirts that we ordered as a school to show our school spirit. If your child did not purchase one of the Blue Ribbon shirts,  please have them wear a different Lindbergh shirt or a red shirt.

We will be arriving back to school between 4:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.  We are asking that all parents be at school by 4:30 p.m. to pick up their children.  If your child is riding home with someone else or going to Kid’s Club, please indicate that in a written note.  We will not release students to anyone other than parents unless we are notified in writing prior to the trip.

We also ask that children not bring any money.  We will be busy exploring the capital and museums and have no time for stops at gift shops.

See you Tuesday morning bright and early!!  We are looking forward to a great trip!!

Thank You,

Ms. Knaus, Mrs. Currie, and Ms. Robey

3rd Grade Musical Costumes

Dear Parents,

Our third grade musical this year is title, “COLORS, We’re Better Together.” All the students are crayons in a crayon box who explore the difficulties which arise when they must work together to complete the day’s task of coloring another page in the coloring book.

In order to make this an outstanding performance, Mrs. Baloga has sent out a note in regards to costumes and the logistics. Please see the attached note in regards to the upcoming musical.

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Mrs. Baloga at balogas@dearbornschools.org

Bags of Hope Donations

As a school we are collecting donations to create Bags of Hope for the homeless in our community. These bags will be filled with everyday items that could help someone who is homeless. Items include socks, gloves, personal hygiene materials, blankets, etc.

Each classroom is responsible for bringing in a different item to help contribute to the bag. Our class has been selected to bring in bags of Tuna. If you could donate, our class would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you!

Weekly Update for the Week of 02/24

Welcome back everyone! I hope you took some time out this past break to really “Sharpen the Saw” and recharge. From now until the end of the year, we will be working hard to prepare for our upcoming M-STEP assessment. Please continue to have conversations with your child about their lead measures and how they are working on making sure they are prepared for the assessment.

In addition, today in class to get prepared we discussed preparing our brains for having a Growth Mindset instead of a Fixed Mindset. Growth Mindset is the belief that you can get smarter when you work hard. Even when something is difficult, with a Growth Mindset you keep trying. While a Fixed Mindset is the belief that a person can’t change their intelligence. People with a Fixed Mindset give up more easily.

See the following video below for more details:

In other news, please make sure that if you were selected to chaperone the Lansing Trip you please turn in your $5 to cover the cost of admission to the museums. If for some reason you can no longer attend, please let me know so that we can accommodate for the trip.

Lansing Chaperones

This Friday, we also had selected chaperones for our Lansing Field trip via lottery system. Due to the amount of individuals allowed on the tour at the capitol building, we can only have 6 chaperones attend this trip. Every chaperone slip was placed inside a classroom bucket, and as a class we pulled 6 names at random. The chaperones we have pulled are listed below. We have also selected several backup chaperones in case something happens. If your name was not selected for this trip, for the Dog Man the musical trip you will be placed on the top of the list as chaperone if you would like to attend. In addition, if you can no longer make the field trip, please let me know ASAP so that I can let another chaperone know. Thank you for being so understanding and being supportive of our class.

Weekly Update for the Week of 2/10

Congratulations Lindbergh and Lindbergh Families on receiving the National Blue Ribbon Award for excellence in Education! Today we were able to celebrate this momentous occasion by having an Award Ceremony. We created this YouTube video to highlight some of the great things that make Lindbergh such a wonderful school. Feel free to watch the video below:

https://youtu.be/-2YitrgxypM

Don’t forget that this week is Spirit Week! Here are some of the events we will be celebrating.

Tuesday- Crazy Sock Day

Wednesday- Blue Snack Day

Thursday- Blue Hat or Blue Hair Day

Friday- “We Love Lindbergh”- Lindbergh Pride Day or Valentine’s Day Apparel!

In addition to Spirit Week, we will be updating our WIG scoreboards this week. Meaning we will be updating our NWEA scores in our scoreboard and reflecting upon our lead measures (ways that we will achieve our goal) by determining what we want to accomplish by the end of the year. Once we have our WIG scoreboards updated, we will be sending home their NWEA winter scores home this week.

On Friday, we also will be completing our Valentine’s Day Exchange. Please see previous post for more details or the note that went home! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out.

Lastly, here is what we will be covering this week:

Math- Using the associative/commutative property to multiply and divide, and mid-module assessment starting this Wednesday-Thursday. Students will complete review problems in class and will work at a slower pace for this assessment.

Reading- Analyzing text structure within an informational text (compare/contrast), gathering information from charts, and determining the main idea and how it supports the details.

Writing- Students begin their first text-dependent analysis writing. Students will get an informational writing prompt (similar to M-STEP) and will have to answer a question citing evidence from the text. We will begin by modeling this as a whole class and gradually releasing students to complete independently.

Spelling- word pattern: r-controlled vowels (-er, -ir, and -ur):

caterpillar, butterfly, dangerous, deter, birds, curl, furry, and survive.

See Spellingcity for a fun way to practice these words.

Science- This week in science we will explore the mystery, “Why are some places always hot?” We will learn about the idea of ‘climate’–that in every place on earth, the weather tends to act a certain way over the year. Your child will learn how there are five basic climate zones: polar, temperate, mild, desert, and tropical. You can continue to support your child’s curiosity by talking about a friend or family member who lives in a different climate, and discussing how that climate affects their life. Or look for aspects of our local environment which show what kind of climate we live in.

Leader in Me- Habit 6: Synergize- This week we will learn about barriers to synergy. Discuss with your child “How are cliques a barrier to synergy?”

Upcoming Events

Tuesday- Crazy Sock Day and informational NWEA meeting for parents (see previous post) 2:45 pm in the media center

Wednesday- Blue Snack Day and Mid-Module Assessment

Thursday- Blue Hat or Blue Hair Day and Lansing Permission and Chaperone Slips due

Friday- Wear Lindbergh Pride Apparel or Valentine’s Day Apparel. Valentine’s Day Exchange

Next Week

2/17-2/21- Mid- Winter Break!
