Weekly Update for the Week of 03/09

Happy Monday Everyone!

Thank you once again for all of those parents who helped chaperone our Lansing Trip. We truly had a wonderful time and we couldn’t have done it without you.

Now that we are back, we are continuing to drive our instruction forward. Today we begun our new reading unit: Comparing Points of View. We will be discussing how character’s perspectives change. We also will be beginning to wrap up our math module and social studies units.

Since we are getting close to wrapping up our math module, please see the study guide below. I will be sending home a paper copy of this guide tomorrow.

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1EeMCnfbHoHcmpkEYtbNFucQQ1LoFJKQSZaVStOF2xpg/edit?usp=sharing

This week is also filled with many special events. Today we had our state Representative Abdallah Hammoud stop by to read to the third graders for March is Reading Month. He did such a fantastic job!

Tomorrow we will be hosting voters for the Primary Election. Please make sure to read the previous posts regarding the election for details regarding the procedures for tomorrow.

In addition, tomorrow is also Spring Picture Day. All students will be taking Spring Pictures. Even though we all will be taking Spring Pictures, you are not obligated to purchase the photos.

Math – Reviewing two-step word problems and applying strategies to solve multiplication problems involving units of 10. On Friday we will begin taking our Module 3 Math Assessment.

Reading- Asking questions about a text, distinguishing points of views of characters, hyperboles, and creating mental images of a text.

Writing- Researching a topic using print and video sources to answer a text-dependent analysis prompt. We also will begin planning out an informational writing piece.

Spelling- open syllable patterns: because, demand, fiber, future, locate, open, remove, and patient

Science- This week in science we will explore the mystery, “Why are some places always hot?” We will learn about the idea of ‘climate’–that in every place on earth, the weather tends to act a certain way over the year. Your child will learn how there are five basic climate zones: polar, temperate, mild, desert, and tropical. You can continue to support your child’s curiosity by talking about a friend or family member who lives in a different climate, and discussing how that climate affects their life. Or look for aspects of our local environment which show what kind of climate we live

Social Studies- Analyzing how Michigan uses their natural resources, the introduction of the automotive industry, and discussing the push/pull factors as to why people come to Michigan.

Upcoming Events

Tuesday– Election Day, Spring Pictures, Robey ELG Tutoring, and PTA meeting

Wednesday- Science/Magic Assembly, Robey ELG Tutoring, and After-School gym (throwing games) 3:45-4:45pm.

If for some reason your child performed below standards, and you would like for them to retake it please let me know. I would be more than happy to give your child a retake for the next two weeks.

Please go over it with your child, since similar questions will be on the end of unit Test.
