Good Evening Parents,
I hope you are having a calming rainy Monday! This week is the BIG week. We begin our end-of-year assessment period. Since testing is a big part of the next two weeks, you will notice that our homework load will be a lot lighter. There will be no spelling and no reading log for the next two weeks. In some cases there will also be no additional math homework being sent home on test days only. If you ever have a question about homework, never hesitate to ask.
Tomorrow will be the first day of M-STEP testing, please make sure your child goes to be early today, gets a great big breakfast tomorrow, and is on time for school. In addition to getting breakfast, please send your child with 2 snacks tomorrow. We will be eating snack during the test and again in the afternoon.
I wanted to also invite you to attend our Poetry Slam tomorrow. From 2:15-3:15 your child will be hearing some of their classmate’s favorite poems and even performing their own poem in front of the class. Remember that the students also need to bring in an illustration to share with the class as well. We are going for a “Beatnik” approach. So feel free to wear black and/or a beret if you have one!
I’m also on the hunt for a book light ( the kind that you clip on your book so you can read at night). If you have one at home would you please let me know! If not, no worries!
Listed below are some of the content and events that are happening this week in room 208.
Reading- M-STEP ELA (Tue., Wed., and possibly Thurs.) and wrapping up our nonfiction study
Writing- M-STEP ELA (Tue. , Wed., and possibly Thurs.) and writing short answer prompts
Math- Wrapping up our fractions on a number line unit. Expressing equivalent fractions and comparing fractions using a number line. Test will be next Monday. Math study guide is listed below:
Science- Finished their Animals Through Time Quiz Part 2. Then we will learn about flowers: what they do for the plant, how they work, and more. We will solve the mystery, “Why do plants grow flowers?” (It’s to attract pollinators!)
You can help reinforce this week’s learning by asking your child to find a flower in the house, yard, or neighborhood. Ask your child, “What has to happen, in order for this plant to grow seeds?”
Social Studies- Discuss what drives Michigan’s economy today, specialization and interdependence within the economy, and Michigan’s economic future.
Spelling- NO spelling this week
Leader in Me- Habit 6: Synergize teaches us that when two or more people work together, they accomplish more than either could have alone. Synergy is more than compromise, which results in both people losing a little. And it is more than cooperation, where you basically double your options. Leaders go beyond cooperation to creativity, which results in achieving amazing and seemingly impossible results. Discuss with your child, “What are the benefits of involving others?”
