Weekly Update for the Week of 12/16

It is the school week of December! Can you believe how fast time has flown?!

This week we have several special activities and events.

On Monday we kicked off two very special weeks: Random Acts of Kindness Week and On the Five Days Before Winter Break My Teacher Gave to Me Daily Gifts.

To kick off our Random Acts of Kindness Week, students were greeted with a candy cane and kindness note left on their locker. Afterwards, we talked about how Good Spreads with a little help from Kid President. We then reviewed our act of kindness goals. This week your child is encouraged to complete an act of kindness each day. Listed below are the kindness activities.

For the On the Five Days before Winter Break My Teacher Gave to Me, students will receive a gift from Ms. Robey each day. Today’s gift was a week that is homework free! That is right parents no reading logs and no spelling words!

Please make sure to keep an eye out for the upcoming events. We will be working on accomplishing some tasks with this week and some fun too.

Reading- Analyzing how illustrations contribute to a story, how characters’ motivations can affect the story, and comparing characters within a text.

Writing- Focusing on developing our draft for our fable.

Math- Rounding sums to the nearest ten and hundred. Also reviewing time measurement and measuring lengths.

Social Studies- Discovering the differences between primary and secondary sources, learning about the three fires tribes, and reading legends of the Native Americans in Michigan.

Science- Students will learn about why snowflakes are white.

Leader in Me- Habit 4: Think Win-Win- Students will learn about emotional bank accounts and learn how we can use our words and actions to contribute to each other’s bank accounts. Students will practice making “deposits” into other people’s bank accounts by doing our Random Act of Kindness Events.

Tuesday- Mid-Module Assessment Test due back signed

Wednesday- Late Start

Thursday- Grinch Day (wear your favorite Who Inspired outfits), Student Lighthouse meeting, and “Who Feast” at 2:30. Please see previous email about Grinch Day for more details.

Friday- PBIS Reward Clubs
