Welcome back from Thanksgiving Break Everyone! I do apologize for the late weekly update. This first week in December we are diving deeper into subject areas and beginning new journeys into others.
Do you wish you could have some snapshots (pictures) of what fun activities students are doing in class? Well, you are in luck! One of our room parents, Mrs. Lewis, has been so kind enough to start a classroom Shutterfly website! The Shutterfly website is a safe photo sharing website. Only members who have subscribed and are approved can view the photos on the page. If you are interested in being apart of this Shutterfly website where you may see pictures of what your child has been up to, please reach out to Mrs. Lewis at ddoliveriolewis@gmail.com with your name, email, and phone number. If you have any more questions feel free to reach out.
In addition to this amazing website, please see the information below to see what we are working on in class.
Reading- Discussing how characters and their actions can change the story. Discussing character traits (positive/negative), introducing similes, and analyzing fables.
Writing- Brainstorming settings, characters, and plot for our own personally designed fable.
Math- Measuring and decomposing liquid measurements. Mid-Module Assessment on Friday.
Social Studies– Beginning our Early History of Michigan unit. Discussing the first native people in Michigan: The Three Fires Tribe
Science- This week, students will apply what they’ve learned about magnets to design their own magnetic locks!
Here’s something you can do to encourage your child’s curiosity at home: look for other products that use magnets! For example:
- Do you have any bags, coin purses, or wallets that snap shut using magnets?
- Do any of your drawers or cabinets stay closed using magnets?
- Do you use magnets to hold things on your refrigerator?
Leader in Me- Wrapping up Habit 3: Put First Things First. Discussing our “Big Rocks.”
Upcoming Events
Wednesday- First Class and Assembly and PBIS Reward
Friday- Mid-Module Math Assessment and Bingo for Books
