Weekly Update for the Week of 09/16

Happy Monday Everyone!

I hope that you are ready for a wonderful week ahead. Our class has been quite busy developing future leaders. I did want to take a moment to say thank you for those parents being understanding for my absence today. Today I was out of the building due to Jury Duty, and had to miss being with the kids today. As a result of my absence, the students were asked to not turn in their math homework. Please send in their math homework from Friday to class tomorrow.

We will be continuing this week with our beginning of the year testing and practicing expectations within the classroom. Later this week, your child will receive their NWEA scores for the fall within their planner. I will be sending a note home soon regarding this information.

Listed below is an overview of what we will be discussing in class this week:

Reading- Discussing the expectations of a book talk with partners, active listening, and author’s purpose. We will be discussing the three reasons why author’s write: to persuade, to inform, and to entertain.

Writing- Setting up the Reader’s Response notebook. Discussing what an effective reader’s notebook looks like and how to write within their notebooks. We also will be starting to develop a persuasive letter.

Math- Understanding how multiplication relates to division. Diving into Topic B: Division as an unknown factor

Science- See last week’s update

Social Studies- See last week’s update

Leader in Me- Habit 1: Be Proactive. Discussing how being responsible for your work will benefit you as a leader.

Upcoming Events

Thursday- Raffle Tickets go home

Friday- Half-Day for Students. Dismissal is at 11:45. Hearing Screenings begin.

September 25th- Late Start

September 26th- Picture Day
