Good Evening Parents,
This week we are continuing our final units of study within third grade. Please remember to take the time to following along our blog. I will be making sure to post updates on what’s going on within the classroom and keep you posted on all of our upcoming events.
Since this week is a short week we will not be having a reading log or spelling this week. Even though we do not have spelling or a reading log, you want to make sure to keep reading with your child. We are currently working on our DRA reading assessments, and by practicing with your child you are able to help them achieve some of their lead measures for their W.I.G.s.
During this week, we will also be taking our last two NWEA assessments. On testing days please make sure that your child gets plenty of rest, has breakfast, and plenty of encouraging words. By doing this, I know our students can meet their academic W.I.G.S.
Listed below are some of the items we are working on.
Reading- Figurative language (hyperbole, homonyms, idioms, etc.) and discussing context clues for vocabulary words
Writing- Personal Essays. Reviewing a big idea within a writing piece and coming up with personal ways students can relate to a big idea.
Math- Wrapping up our organizing and displaying data module, Module 6 Test on Wednesday, and beginning our Module 7: Geometry unit.
Science-
This week we are solving the mystery, ‘Why do plants grow fruit?’ We will see how fruit is a tasty container for seeds, and how all fruits are simply one part of a flower (the ovary).
You can help support this week’s learning by involving your child when cutting vegetables or fruits. Ask them, “What should I look for, to know if what I’m cutting was once part of the flower?” (Answer: Look for seeds!)
Social Studies- We will be starting our Government of Michigan unit this week. Discussing the purpose of government and learning about the representative government that Michigan has. We also will learn the difference between state governments and local governments.
